Quote: |
Endowed with a new mystical vision, the Elven wizard Emmindor, is forewarned of a re-emergent evil. The Incaba Dominastra, an ancient secret society thought destroyed at the end of the last age reappear to embark upon a quest of unholy purpose.
Relaying his vision to the high wizard Galdryn, Patriarch of the Circle of Mages, Emmindor has learned only that the Incaba Dominastra still survives and has dispatched a clandestine agent to seek and recover an ancient artifact known as the Orb of Oracles. Galdryn confides to Emmindor that his knowledge of this artifact is limited to but a single rumor - that anyone who possesses the Orb of Oracles is not only able to see the future, but to journey there as well...
Galdryn summons our hero, and sets before us a most dangerous and covert mission, to uncover the identity of the mysterious dark agent of the Incaba Dominastra, and to obtain the Orb of Oracles before the Incaba Dominastra can retrieve it. Galdryn relates that according to the ancient tales, the Orb of Oracles was hidden far in the Northlands, beyond the kingdom of Rothn, and is protected by a special guardian. The tales say that there is an ancient mystic who lies in wait, known as the Oracle of the Orb, and that this Oracle alone possesses the knowledge of where and how the magical Orb might be won from its guardian. To find the Orb, one must seek out the Oracle.
Your journey begins...

Screenshots look surprisingly "Gothic 3" like.
Good thing or a bad thing?

Joowood...I wouldn't expect much, their notorious for leaving shit buggy. Also the first dungeon lords didn't do so well if it's the same "game"

Replayed the first one with the 1.5 edition (Bit stupid actually that they made the patch into a CE version and re-sold it, guess they needed the cash though.) and it's a OK RPG but extremely "old-school" and even with the latest patch it's not perfect.
Main problem for me was that you walked around a city or something and every time you turned a corner another "group" of enemies (Or horde in case it was weaker foes like rats and bats) spawned and attacked you, running wasn't possible either as that simply spawned tons of enemies.
Level up a bit though and you can easily kill most foes but there's a extreme amount of them and the same goes for just exploring the world as most stuff is very randomly placed such as chests and containers (With even more random loot in them.)
Can't explain it much aside from "old-school" RPG similar to the earlier (And some of the later) Ultima titles and the Might & Magic games.
(Albeit Dungeon Lords is a bit extreme even when compared to those.)
Will be interesting to see how the sequel is, been in production for quite a while now with all sorts of screens and info about it but it seems to have been delayed a bit.
(Looks OK as well but that doesn't say much, kinda like Two Worlds actually.)
EDIT: Oh yeah the guy behind this title also did the earlier "Wizards & Warriors" game.
(Similar style and concept although very dated by now.)

I played and finished the first one after they patched the minimap into the game. Yes, its old school and it just was unfinished but later it developed into a really great RPG with great skills and fast paced action combat. A lot of stuff was missing and performance in the woods was horrible but at the end i enjoyed it very much.
Yes, there are games being so crappy its okay to judge them after1/2h of playing. Not so with Dungeon Lords.
And Sabin, is there any damn thread on this board where you dont flood useless crap postings like "Must have* and *can not wait* bla bla. It gets really really annoying dude!

I'm interested, I adore this kind of RPG. Risen and Two Worlds: The Redemption are also on my radar.

Yeah same here, really as long as the game is even halfway decent, I always get hooked into RPG's like these for countless hours. Usually there isn't that many free-roaming / open world RPG's to look forward to, but now there's lots of potentially good titles coming.
Can't really say I enjoy party-based RPG's that much anymore. But then again maybe it's because the group interaction etc. have been missed opportunities in recent games - BG2 and few other oldies are still the pinnacle of party dialogue/quests/conflicts, new games like Mass Effect are just pitiful in comparison.
I really hope Dragon Age puts effort to make the party NPC's feel alive - if they're just there to provide a boost in combat, it's just a chore to level and gear them up properly.

A while ago there were rumors about it being on hold, no reasons or anything and no official statements but it looks like it's dead now unless they're redoing it or something though I doubt it.
Unsure about dungeon hero, wasn't that a MMO like game?
(Or was it a game with a similar name, was released anyhow from what I know but I haven't heard much about it.)
EDIT: Ah no it was that game, saw a few videos but haven't heard anything since then.

EDIT: Currently working on Stronghold 3 now but there was a news update in 2009 about it.

Dungeon Hero has been 'on hold' for quite a while now, it'll probably never come out.

From what I recall OAO is on hold...
Not specifying date on anything, they are working on Gothic 4... Think thats correct...he he...
Or at least it was stated in the Dungeon Lords Collectors Edition Forum...
