I dunno, I really liked it. It was interesting...could have been longer tho.
And Heat, its not that good of a movie. Its not bad, its not...medium...but its not some amazing film.
I dont know why you think its so great. Its a good action movie, nothing more.
Just because De Niro and Pacino are in it doesnt make it a 10...if anything, its, at the highest, an 8.

Syco, you should check the original 1951 version to see what is wrong with this version.

my rant on another forum;
day the earth stood still was a very mixed bag
it actually had a lot of great elements and things done right, but the other half was the usual hollywood awfulness
with one more rewrite it could have been great
much more so than most films that are just mediocre throughout
my biggest annoyance of the film apart from general crappiness was how flawed the premise was
while the original was essentially an alien screening process for new interplanetary species, this one was reduced to misguided hippie bullshit about mankind somehow "killing earth"
we couldn't "kill earth" even if we wanted to
we can at relative ease make it uninhabitable by human beings, but we are pretty much the first species to go, and earth will ridiculously quickly fix itself and a new dominant lifeform will arise
there would have to be some really important and fragile secondary species on the planet for the aliens to wipe the dominant species off it
which one is it? elephants? whales? dolphins?
fast forward a few million years and things might look different, but superior intelligence of any alien species is not a factor in determining distant future evolution of a species
besides, mass extinctions are a good thing for the future development of a planet as a whole - thinning the herd and lifting the most adaptable genes to the surface
the biodiversity has grown increasingly complex after every extinction event
if it wasn't for extinction events, it's probable that human level intelligence would not have appeared when it did, as dumber creatures dominated the landscape and were already perfectly fitted for it, giving evolution no reason to change the status quo
so the aliens sound more like the US foreign policy than any real ethical reasoning, being more about doing something, anything, when something can be done and feeling good about it, rather than doing what's appropriate, when it's appropriate

I haven't seen the original and I sort of liked this. In no way a top flick but definitely not bad. I'd say imdb is pretty on the spot with 5.5/10.

there were two things wrong about this film; boy that can't act for shit and only on the screen coz his daddy is there, who as great actor as a wooden stick and the script, earth should've been cleansed from the desease it carries
overall original was better even tho it's almost 60 yo
p.s. KR does look horrible, doesn't look like he will last that long
