Woohoo! I'm getting both of these suckers for Christmas (was informed they're still being shipped, and should be here by the 30th.) I will post a review as soon as I get to try them out.

Currently I'm using a no-brand optical I picked up at some crappy electronics store and an eMachines kb I salvaged from a computer user that deserves a Darwin award. The KB is pretty simple (basic + 17 programmable (app/webpage only)) keys and a volume control, and the mouse is standard 3-button wheeler.

The Saitek keyboard is cool. But i prefer natural keyboards so it would not be an option for me.

The current ranking of mice in terms of precision and responsiveness is as follows:

1. Logitech MX 1000
2. Razer Viper
3. Logitech MX 510

Logi is more responsive than Razr. Check.

If you use 500 Hz and re-test, you find that the MX 510 comes dangerously close to the MX 1000 in terms of precision, and the Viper even closer. However, it's not enough to close the gap with the MX 1000.

Not even overclocking can stop the Logi. Check.

Overall, I would still rank the Logitech MX 1000 first for all types of use.

being dinked in your own review by another mouse. Check.

Yes. That is one of the Diamondback's main disadvantages, and, ironically, the only thing that keeps it's overpriced ass in the ring. Getting beat to oblivion, yes, but still in the ring.

As for the enormous hands thing, I've found it quite normal. The mouse itself is too large to fit into your hand due to the fact that it has a very broad base, a major factor in being speedy, distributing it's weight well, and stability. Luckily, the top of the mouse forms a shape that falls very naturally into hands of my (relatively small) size, and I've found it to be more than superb as far as comfort goes. I would say that this mouse goes out of it's way to be egronomic. The Diamondback, on the other hand, is standard fare. It uses the most conventional design available, minimizes the mouse's height and thus increases fatigue (bad idea), broadens the base to an unreasonable size (bad idea) and screws up the mouse's curve to make it feel like you're holding a pack of cigarettes (bad idea).

To further shit on top of Razer's cake, the MX is wireless, features a technology with a lot more potential than that of Razer, and has a sturdy, secure feel in your hand. Plus the signature absense of visible mouse buttons and the sexy executive appearance compared to the crouched look and feel of the Razer is really gorgeous.

I have a mouse that looks and feels close to the Razer. It's a cheap mouse but as far as form goes, it went far to imitate Razer's design. It's the primary reason I upgraded.

As far as weight goes, it's virtually unnoticable.

I use a magazine to mouse on (PC Gamer), I have yet to see a hiccup. Plus the MX1000 has to house a Li-Ion battery, and even at that it handles the weight well.

Finally, tracking and optics. It's true that Razer has developed a new optical system, and it does capture twice as many images as the MX1000, but honestly, how many captures do we need. The Diamondback captures 1600 images per inch of movement. This means that, were the mouse used to its full potential, 1.25 inches of movement would be needed to move from one corner of your monitor to the other, given a resolution of 1600x1200. Do you REALLY need your mouse to move that fast? Can YOU aim at 4 pixels that are a character in your crosshairs if you span 1600 per inch? I think not. I cannot move my mouse with the precision of 0.0025 inches. If you can, you need to get laid. Quickly.

Simply put, the Diamondback is the MX1000's bitch.

You need to use Google before you use "Submit". The MX1000's base polls the mouse at a rate of 150hz, which is ~ the maximum poll speed for USB, so unless you overclock your USB (it's possible, but there's no point), you won't get any difference. And no, it does not lag.

As for the review, I'll do it if I have time for it.
