(Bit stupid that their government or what best call it blocks violence as they fear it's "dangerous" or how to best describe it, as if movies and such isn't more detailed and more graphic than games are, nudity seems very accepted though which is pretty much a direct opposite of the US where violence is OK but nudity must be blocked as it's somehow "corrupt" or how to best describe it, again movies are more detailed and graphic, specially all the porn available there. ) |
well it's not exactly a general rule, but germany has got the "bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende medien" (federal department for media harmful to young ppl) which puts games/films/etc rated mature on an index, which means they aren't displayed in stores like usual and age verification is enforced, plus they lately put friggin huge age restriction symbols on game boxes - but that's about it, the whole censorship is only the next logical step to avoid financial suicide by the publishers.
until now, today some bavarian minister announced they want to ban the whole shooter genre cuz they're putting it on the same level as drugs and child porn - and this isn't an april fools joke.

They should understand that this repression thing could easily backfire. I mean I dunno, I'm no expert, but maybe all that pent up stuff will build up and it'll just drive people to do what's banned because doing what's prohibited feels good.

it's not the protection - it's just that in terms of technical execution, the game fails in an epic way, worse than any budget production. first of all, it runs like shit, even though the gfx are quite crappy and the max res seems to be 1280x800 or something. animations are awful, characters look like they were taken straight from the half life1 era.
now that stuff wouldn't really bother me, but the amount of bugs reported on the net as well as those i've experienced myself is almost scary for an adventure game. bugs and glitches in an open world game are halfway excusable imho, but not in a streamlined point and click game with no alternative ways to complete anything and no other factors interfering.
it's simply not funny to run into a brick wall just because the game lets some item disappear or your character gets stuck in front of a door or when using a computer. in other games there are quick/autosaves or checkpoints, but who the fuck saves in an adventure, except before exiting? i don't. aaaaaand there i go, alt-f4-ing with 3 hours of gameplay just wasted
anyway, if you can look past the technical issues and have a thing for serial killers and csi stuff, it's a good adventure game at the core.

Damn this sucks, I liked Still Life so much. What happened with the second one, it was made by different devs or something?
