Both were published by Take2 but they were developed (ported later to PC as well.) by Rockstar Studios. Smile

Can't remember what the studio name was but they were fully acquired by Take2 and renamed T2 Czech.
(Didn't T2 publish the original Mafia? They do publish several bigger titles like the first Stalker and Bioshock as well.)

They'd be idiots to make a shitty port this time. The first Mafia sold 2 milion copies. They could make a fucking fortune if they do this one right.

Well, originally name of the studio was Illusion Softworks and later they changed their name to 2K Czech. It's the same studio that worked on original Mafia, as well as Vietcong, Vietcong 2, Hiddend & Dangerous 2, etc...

Bully for the pc was like the only game in a decade I couldn't get past the menu and see the actual game, I even tried some trick that limits your system memory to 2 GB because 4 GB apparently messes the game up so you can't say I haven't tried, what a fucking mess that game was, un-fucking believable, wouldn't surprise me if something similar happens here.

If they want to fail anything near the recent epic ones in the genre (in terms of optimization), they have to work very hard.

Mafia II Trailer

An extended cut of the recent trailer, and further conformation that Mafia II is scheduled to arrive next Autumn:

Hi my name is Tomas Hrebicek, Lead Animator at 2K Czech, and I’m here to give you an overview of the Mafia II trailer that you are about to experience.

We’ve been receiving a lot of questions about whether or not the trailer was real-time and I’m here to clear the air. It really was. All the scenes were completely created in our editor the same way we create cutscenes for the game. Our cutscene editor is a very powerful tool. Besides, we can see it all real-time which makes our work a lot easier. There was absolutely no need to modify the resulting video in the postproduction.

Because everything was created solely in our editor, only our in-game scenes and models were used. So what you see here is great representation of the quality of work that you will see throughout Mafia II. Of course, this is not the end yet, and frame rate and other technical issues are still being tweaked in order to have the game working smoothly on all the platforms we create it for.

The common theme found in the trailer is the same common theme found throughout the entirety of Mafia II; strong interpersonal relationships. Of course, when playing you will experience all kinds of shootouts, car chases, and fights, but what I think is the most important is to identify yourselves with the main character and those close to him. Every single thing you do in the game causes a corresponding reaction. And it is only up to you what you do.

In the trailer, the relations are hinted at in the church sequence. However, we would not really like to reveal any more important facts; you have to experience it yourself with Vito from the beginning to the end.

I would like to emphasize that the game has a very dark humorous side to it. It definitely is not a superficial comedy. The story as such is quite varied so you could look forward also to a true, mafia atmosphere and strong emotions of all kinds. I can’t wait to see the first players actually play it.

I’m very excited to see the reaction of this trailer. Over the coming months, you will have plenty to look forward to in the way of Mafia II. In the meantime, please enjoy this trailer and look forward to more in-depth behind-the-scenes coverage next week!

I sense this game is going to be a massive cpu-and-gpu rapist. GTA 4 will be like solitaire compared to mafia 2. Hope i'm dead wrong. Sad

2K released Bioshock as well and no one can call that a shoddy port.

It's still Illusion Softworks (creators of first Mafia), they are just called "2K Czech" now since they've been bought.

looks fun but those open maps look horrible - lots of pop ins, jaggies, low view lod

nice game but it will shine on the PC when you crank up the lod field of view

I really, really hope not ...there are some jaggies&lod issues but it isn't the retail version, so we can't say the final word; one thing is sure: the game does NOT look like all the previously released screenshots. However the animations seem right and even if the gameplay is a little bit semplified (or consolized), my hopes are still high..

That is the console version though(more than likely anyway since I don't see them showing the PC version with a controller) so the PC version probably has better AA, distance etc. or so I hope.
