IF there were any monsters left (which there weren't. The quest was to kill 9 Minecrawlers .. all nine carcasses are right in front of me Rolling Eyes I know what I'm doing, guys) then it went ghost-mode and fell into oblivion.

Screw it. Too many bugs, too much shit, constant crashes when you alt-tab. I'd rather go back to playing FO3 and ME.

Cool there's your problem mate.. trying to complete the questlog in THIS game?! heh good luck.. i usually do around 80% of them.. and for the rest.. heck i wont even bother unless i'm willing to spend hourS searching all map for some tiny object hidden behind some tree on the corner of the map..
since there isnt a quest marker and the game is HUGE.. you just gotta skip some of them or else you'll go nuts and .. well.. uninstal Crying or Very sad

Well you've played it before and it seeems you've played it exensively so you already know this but it's a difficult task to succesfully complete all tasks given to you and some of them cancel out eachother or even fail other quests plus the whole faction and region quest choices meaning you'll do different things depending on which side you support.
(Playing them against eachother is fun as well but risky as you might make enemies of all sides and thus have no real way to complete the story missions properly.)

Aye! I've never *finished* the game, but I've played through - as you say; extensively - quite a number of times now. I really do enjoy the GAME, I just wish it wasn't so buggy - and I positively hate the world-streaming that causes the game to hitch and jump whenever you visit a new area (or even re-vist an older one)

Still, it's engrossing and incredibly deep (oh and I always side with the Rebels, heh)

For more XP ? Rolling Eyes i tend to use xp when playing an rpg game..who knows maybe im a freak Laughing

Anyway like i said, this is the only gothic i havent finished, because of the bugs and poor optimizing, but now with 1.12 ive done the entire northland quests anf it did run very well indeed. So great soo far, as for the quests and factions, just role play it and accept this: shit happens Very Happy

Wow, just wow. This game is like new now. @ level 48 and haven't had any crashes, other than alt-tab related, which doesn' treally work in any of the big freeroaming RPGs.

FPS is a tad higher and more even with much better graphics. Man textures are soo much nicer looking with shader 3.0, rimlighting and soft-AA. Also less stuttering, although you still need SSD to completely cure it.

Fighting is new as hell because block actually works and is needed. Haven't seen any quest related bugs, other than that one minecrawler in Okara still gets through the wall, and people inside Okara will kill it.

All I can say is just wow, all hail to the CP.

Do not say that you still play with 1.12, when there is 1.70 already. Very Happy

To have better luck with alt+tabbing, try going into the game menu first and then alt+tabbing.

The CP guys say this should for the most part prevent the crashes and the black screens when tabbing back into the game.

Finally gonna retry this game with the 1.7 patch thats out.. I plan to uninstall forsaken gods and everything so I can start fresh.. Here is where I wanna be sure I have it right.. To take advantage of the 1.7 cp I need to JUST install Gothic 3, play it, then I install Forsaken Gods and play after completing Gothic 3??

Forsaken Gods doesnt integrate into The original Gothic 3 at all?

Thanks..

Forsaken Gods is stand-alone, install it to a different folder, also it uses it's own patches (1.0809 or somesuch is the latest availabe patch.)

Do NOT mix files from both games as that'll break them.

What's totaly keeping me away from even trying Forsaken Gods is that the map is just 1/3 of the original or if it was 1/4th.. exploring is everything in this game.

1.7 made Gothic3 incredible playable and fun, i'm very happy that i've waited to play it.

Can't wait for the quest pack to come out (it's getting translated)..

That's what I always do, but it only works for the first two or three times, then I get the black screen.

I've gotten "saving before tabbing" down to an art, hehe.

Yeah, F3 and Oblivion works pretty much the same, few alt-tabs and you get crash.

I'm giving this game a try now that cp 1.7 is released and I love it so far.

Now I have some doubts about what kind of fingting style should I train. What's best?

- One hand with shield?
- Two hands?
- Or dual one hand weapons?

I think I played Gohic 1 and 2 focusing in the big 2 hands weapons, but since this one seems a lot more difficult than the previous 2, I don't really know in which style spend the points.
Or there is enough points to train and master the whole 3 styles. along with other stuff, like hunting and basic magic, alchemy, etc?

There's more than enough LP to acquire in-game for you to specialise in all weapons (from standard swords, to larger weapons and even ranged> bows+crossbows)

I thought this CP removed this "issue" and LP have been reduced...But haven´t really played it more than 3 hours till now , so I really couldn´t say Very Happy;

The game is absolutely enjoyable right now, though i´ve already seen some minor bugs (most of them partner related, getting stucked, going through walls and stuff like that, nothing serious). Enjoying it for the first time Razz.

Aye, if you play with Alternate Balancing - then it becomes significantly harder to MASTER all styles and skills, but it not to at least specialise in them.

Yep, I play with Alternate Balancing in medium difficulty, with the new AI turned on.

Since the enemies are a lot more dangerous with the new AI, I think that I'll need some good protection. I'll try one hand weapons with shield for now.

A one-handed weapon and shield will get you VERY far in the game, hell.. pretty much the best combo you'll need AT ALL, especially once you forge your first Ruby Blade (or acquire the Katana)

Personally, as in all my RPGs, I try to dual-wield as much as possible - and I'm almost as the Hashishin homeland, so I'll be trading my single Ruby Blade and Knight Shield for a PAIR of Ruby Blades. Bring it ^_^

Yeah! I love to figth with two swords (that always recalls me to Drift Do'Urden and his scimitars) even if that means to sacrifice the aditional protection of the shield.
You can always switch one sword for the shield anytime tho.

hehe yeah Drizzt, I misspelled it.

By the way sabin, can you forge better weapons than that you can buy on stores? should I spend some points on Blacksmith?

Yeah, Self-Forger+Blessed (Scroll mainly)+Sharpened = +30 to damage, pretty good actually. Smile
(Ruby blade might not be the best one-hander but it's not a bad blade when "honed" a bit according to the above formula, haven't found one with AB enabled though so it might be even better now.)

Kinda like the blades in Forsaken Gods though, two weapons each doing 250 damage is pretty effective.
(Changed a bit in the latest patch though, improves balance a bit.)

EDIT: Unless I remember wrong you can also use the Ruby Blade to make a better sword but that might require some hard to find raw materials.
(Pure magic ore blanks for example, those are very uncommon and there's not many of them so even though only four or so weapon requires them you can only create two of those at most.)

I love the SIZE of the Gothic world. I'm level 28 now, been playing for around 15hrs - probably more - and I'm still in the area around Vengard. It's amazing how much there is to see and do in the world!

Right now I have a Self-forged, sharpened, Ruby Blade (two actually) but I've not found a scroll for Blessing yet .. sigh. I also have a Pure Magic Ore blank .. so I'm gonna be on the lookout for that "upgraded Ruby Blade" thanks JB!

Final update 1.71, can continue with old savegame, quest pack (German version out already) will however require a new game once it's translated and released.
