Just checked the disc, based on the file layout it seems this game uses UE3, shouldn't really be surprising considering the wide variety of titles that it's been used for though.
(Grimm for example, third season is currently going on and it's pretty good.)
EDIT: Installing, noticed this in the readme by the way. (Framerate should be fine though.)
Quote: |
VIII) Is ATI’s Crossfire or NVIDIA’s SLI supported?
Unfortunately, this feature is not supported.
|
EDIT: Played it a bit (Did a few missions.) and it's somewhat similar to Larry 8 or Magna Cum Laude to use the full name of the previous game but there's a few changes here and there.
More platforming for example like wall jumping and double jumping, there's also a health bar and if you "die" you fail your current task and have to start over, usually from the beginning.
Gameworld is fully open but you need to do taks (Missions) in a rather linear order, at least that's what I've done so far.
Game is very handholding as well showing you what to do and the mini-map covers most stuff aside from secret statues you can collect for some reason.
Dialogue is OK and there's a lot of quick humor and rather obvious jokes but it's pretty funny now and then, story is a bit messy so far but I've just started.
Some characters return, odder than ever, Larry #1 looks like Hugh Heffner for some reason.
Controls work pretty well and the UE3 engine works fine, few loading screens though but they're full of weird text and odd info to ease the waiting during loading.
(Camera is static when indoors so navigating can be difficult at times.)
You can also drive a vehicle and even run people over (And kill them) but that might send security on you which (If they catch you) means you'll fail your current "mission" and have to start over (Usually from the beginning which might be a bit bothersome on larger jobs.)
Visuals are pretty sharp and the game looks pretty good overall though some textures are a bit low-res and the engine does stream content in and out constantly so some pop-up and similar happen occasionally.
Interesting title so far but I'm not that far into it yet.
EDIT: Long list of images.

What the hell is the world coming to? It's alright to kill people, but god forbid you show a nipple or two in a game whose humor is (or should I say WAS) based primarily on sexual innuendo. Meh.
Regardless, thanks for the mini review and shots J.

Unfortunately I don't know many other sites like imageshack and now it even allows uploading of all images directly instead of one by one though you're not the first person to complain about the images not being visible or the site being slow or other such problems so it's not exactly a perfect solution.
(I'll see what I can do though.)
Also the game introduces a timer into later missions and a few button pushing sequences, unfortuantely you need to remember six "action" keys and they're only represented by a "B1" to "B6" button for each of the six keys so you need to be quick and remember which button is for which action.

Amen to that. That only shows one more time the hypocrisy of the society nowdays. Sad.
Anyway, I'm one of those guys who thinks that the 3 first larry games were great (the second was'n too brilliant tho) nobody is perfect but I enjoyed the last one. It wasn't a good game, I know it, but I had some fun with it.
This one however seems worst to me, havent play it yet so I hope It surprise me in a good way and give me some fun momments. (without nipples of course! they are the devil )

Fortunately a talented coder made an XP/Vista 32/64 bit compatible installer for Leisure Suit Larry 7 in case anyone would like to play that instead of this garbage.
Here's the link to the modified installer only - not the actual game files.
http://www.squirtthecat.com/games/leisure_suit_larry_7/index.html
Play it and experience the REAL Leisure Suit Larry in all his glory. |
Thank you for the link.

yeah. go for lsl 7. this one made me regret spending an hour trying to update daemon tools.
it's shit from every point of view except for the graphics.
the jokes can't be called jokes. for example larry finds a guy looking at some shit on a computer screen and asks him if he was playing the meat flute (or something like that). this is already stupid, but the lame thing is that it doesn't go anywhere beyond that. i mean.. that's the whole joke. larry weirdly asking the guy if he was jerking off. it doesn't go anywhere. the guy just says no, get outta here.
the gameplay consists of running around 'til you get to a new missinon location, after which you're asked to collect some random shit, which involves clumsily climbing obstacles and jumping around. the controls are crap, so don't expect any decent jumpnrun action, this is not psychonauts. the 2nd mission asks you to collect about 20 objects, which are scattered all over the place. for this you have to climb some buildings and hope not to fall down. if you fall down you die and you fail the mission. i was expecting the gameplay to suck, but this is way beyond what i might have imagined.
it takes about 15 minutes to see what the game has to offer and another 15 minutes to realise it's not gonna get better.
magna cum laude was pretty crap, but i beared with it. it still had some sort of stupid charm and some minigames were fun. there is nothing fun about this one, no matter how i look at it.
sorry, larry, but you became so stupid that it's not even funny anymore.

you need DTE to run it, not to install it.
what error are you getting?

try running the installer without DTE. start DTE before running the game, not the installer

So if I understand right (sorry march 31 I become 38 so im getting a bit slow on understanding )
Install DT pro , mount image in IDE drive copy DTE to DTpro dir , run DTE hide the drive (done all this so far except closing DTE) run install of game and well thats it , so basicly I needed to close DTE , is it possible that DTE was the prob for still being open ?
Ow and thx spider
