I'm looking for input, to see if there would be any interest in such a section on the site.
Personally I think it would be a great addition, but I might be wrong.
So I would like to propose a new section, as the review section isn't being used anymore I thought of the more dynamic non scoring and non reviewing "Lets play" category, which seems to be popular at some forums.
The premise is as such, you start a new thread and call it for instance "lets play Quake"
Then you describe what you do where and why, together with screenshots showing it. Every new reply you make to the topic you take the game a bit further story or progression wise.
It is only the thread starter who 'plays' the game in the topic, other users may comment on his progression and choices, even asking him to try various stuff, they may not discuss the game as such though, the normal forum is for that.
If it is an rpg you can name your characters after forum users who volunteer, so you could say lets play Baldurs Gate, requesting volunteers, then people could reply that they volunteer and the thread starter would put them in his game and show the progress with screenshots etc, same as with the quake example.
Theres no limit to what games you can 'play' even the most obscure ones, hopefully leading to more people learning or getting to know more games. You can also "play" games others have played in the past and with mods or not, but if you use specific mods or patch versions, then you must tell what those are.
Other possible things you can do is set some rules to how you can play the game and do 'iron man' "Lets plays" like for instance, go through quake on hardcore and show screenshots of how far you can progress. This will allow you to gain recognition or light flaming from your peers
Of course this would suggest a competitive way of playing and cheaters would be frowned upon.
In the section you can 'play' any game that allow you to take screenshots of your gameplay, so if it's a console game than either have it on an emulator or cross direct feed for screenshots.
Thoughts or suggestions?

This sounds interesting. Can multiple players start their each thread "Let's Play"-ing the same game? Or is it first come, first serve?
I added a link in my sig for more exposure.

Of course, you may even make more threads for multiple lets plays on the same game, bug I suggest some self restrain there though, in that theres no thread spamming. The point of the section would be to have fun.
Sure bushwacka I can also see a lets play thread about a multiplayer game could be fun if it's well structured with screenshots and text, you you don't use it to flame people in your game or calling them out, some strict rules of morality and ethics would have to apply in that case.
Co-op with fellow members of nfohump who'd give their consent in the lets play thread would be interesting, watching people play through L4D for instance and some of the funny situations that could develop there.
But for singleplayer, theres no limits, you can do a "Lets play" about a psychopath in fallout who gets off by killing children, it's an rpg afterall and a "lets play" encourages you to rp and have fun with the game in that way together with fellow forum members who'd share the story with you.

So this will be a new section (probably replacing the Reviews one)? This sounds very cool, and it can open the minds of some to certain games they would not have considered playing before.

Yeah as the reviews suggest a monolithical approach it's not really suited for a forum, but this is more fun and theres no "This game deserves a x/10" it's just a matter of playing the games. No opnions on whether particular games suck or not, it might even be fun to do a lets play of a game you don't enjoy and see what other users think that way.

As long as the "Lets play 3dGayVilla" is not posted, it will be OK.

Same here. I don't play games anymore, but I would like to see how others do and their comments. You can always lock thread/section if it doesn't succeed...
