I read elsewhere Zeebo has licensed a form of SLI technology from Nivida, so up to 6 zeebo units can be connected to render Quake at a mind blowing 640x480 at 47FPS!

Also you can connect 32 and make a very freaking blue glowing Christmas tree.

Maybe designers can think other uses if people not buy this junk.

Maybe can be used to control vending machines, stick below the car to make some cool blue light effect, etc

All supply and demand I guess. The normal consoles costs too much but people still wanna game so they look for alternatives. If the wii, 360 and ps3 sell for $1000 in Brazil I guess some poor kids parents will get him or her one of these.

But the fact still remains that if they ARE that pricey there they can still fucking import a 360 from the US or whatever and maybe pay an ยฃ300 for it in total. Dunno how much the games cost nor internet rates for piracy. But still, seems like a fucking better idea than this junk.

Sort of like giving your kid a BetaMax VCR when his buddies have BluRay-players and HTPC's.

Gaming - Intel Quad Q9450 @ 3.2GHZ | Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB | SB X-Fi | PC6400 8GB | 300GB Velociraptor

Server - Athlon 64 X2 4200+ | Radeon HD 3450 | SB X-Fi | PC5300 2GB | 4TB+ total space

It doesnt have any optical drive at all, cause all games are wireless download only. No hard drive too. Just 1 gb of flash memory. Am i correct? So you can have no more than 1 gb of games installed?? (probably even less) Smile

Zeebo Officially Launches In Brazil With FIFA, Need For Speed, Brain Challenge

Brazilian company Zeebo, Inc. has shipped its eponymous download-only console to retail in its home nation. It marks the official launch of the console, which ships with three pre-loaded games and credit toward three more downloads.

The console plugs directly into a television set and lets users download games from its service. Zeebo comes with Electronic Arts' FIFA 2009 and Need For Speed Carbon, plus Gameloft's Brain Challenge, and 3D Realms/Machineworks Prey Evil and Id Software's Quake I and II are available for free download after purchase. All are localized in Portuguese.

Zeebo expects to expand the digital catalog over time. The platform, which at $249 is claimed to be about a third the cost of traditional video game consoles in Brazil, targets emerging markets, as company execs told Gamasutra in a recent interview.

Zeebo hopes the console will be successful first in these emerging first-world markets, a key first step it must achieve before it can consider expanding to North America.

"Zeebo is the first videogame console to launch exclusively in Brazil and offer games wirelessly, with no packaged discs and no internet or wireless service plans required," says Fernando Fischer CEO of Tectoy, which handles all the marketing and distribution in Brazil.

"Brazil is a videogame savvy marketplace and is the perfect place to launch the Zeebo videogame console and its completely wireless distribution system," says Zeebo CEO John F. Rizzo.

"The system provides an intuitive, quick, and easy-to-use home shopping user experience featuring popular, culturally optimized content from leading game publishers and developers around the world. It also delivers high value and warranty protection compared to gray-market."

for $200 it would have been successful in 1996, I don't see it going anywhere even in brazil and other third world countries
third-wolders mostly pirate their stuff and I'm guessing they're quite happy that way, since the mainstream market doesn't invest there to begin with, and if they do, then not really that much and it'll costs a little fortune
I don't see any intelligent being leaving free top notch PC games on the internet and going for this expensive pile of shit,$200 will buy you a PC that is able to run all 2006 and earlier games which is far better than this little joke here, lol just lol.

I doubt it can even play PS2/xbox1 ports. Quake 1/2, Tekken 2 (That was a fucking PS1 game).... Carbon and Prey probably look like PS1 games too. With 1 gb of flash memory to store downloaded content, you cant do more than that.

Better comparison would be a 99$ PS2 with amazing game library vs this $200 pile of Zeebo crap.

And remember its 99 dollars + good games for cheap compared to 200 dollars. This will fail, and I will enjoy watching it...

NFS-Carbon: (Oh god, my eyes! It burns!)

Resident Evil 4: (LMFAO! ROFL! KEKEKE!)

In fact, the only ones that even look remotely "good" are

Sonic Adventure: (aside from hideous audio and loading times)

Tekken 2: (looks remarkably faithful)

Quake 2: (let's face it, how the fuck old is this game now? My ancient iPaq can run Quake 2 Laughing)

I forgot we actually had a dedicated thread, hehe.

A comparison of arcade and Zeebo versions. God I love(d) RR in the arcade, especially on the huge 2p cabinets that had booming speakers. The audio in the entire series was spectacular ^_^

The arcade version in comparison looks like it's on Acid or something, so fast. I mean, I dare you, watch the whole Zeebo RR video, then start the arcade one. Laughing

You know what, something isn't right. Even a PS1 had racers which felt much much faster, and this seems to be somewhat better (texture filtering for one). So its the idiots coding the crap, not the hardware itself.

What I am surprised about, is Sonic Adventure. Really surprised actually. Crazy Taxi is also supposed to be coming out for the Zeebo, but I think Qualcom are having issues with Sega at the moment as they've removed all references to Sega and Sega games from their official website and download service.

[quote="sabin1981"]Call me nuts, but this actually sounds pretty fun! I see they make no mention of sales in the "typical" Western market -- but does that mean it WON'T be for sale?

this thing costs the same as an xbox 360 in Mexico, madness

"The Zeebo was launched in Mexico in November, 2009. It shipped to national retailers across the country on November 4, with a suggested price of 2,499 Mexican pesos (approximately $189 US).[9] The console is scheduled for nationwide release in Brazil in late 2009, in India in 2010 and China by 2011"

I don't get it. Why would people buy this? I mean there ARE probably lots of people with no idea of gaming, but everybody with access to internet or even just with a friend who has access to internet (which should be nearly everyone, even in Brazil) would know about the X360 and the PS3, so why not import them and pay the same price for a real console?
