well i think GTA4 kinda proves how mature they can be and I also believe that's why so many people dislike it, it was a very serious storyline with a very real setting and very real characters.
I have faith in R* though that's mainly because I think the previous Max Payne games are overrated pieces of shit that whilst having the setting and story on lock its full of shallow gameplay. I can't see how any company can fail to make a game like that better.

Rockstar fanboys are hilarious. |
you ever stop to think that people might like something that you don't because they care for different things than you do?
i liked the story, the characters, the humour and the dialogue from gta4. they were fucking excellent. i didn't play it just to drive a car around and run people over. if i'd wanted that, i'd have played sr2. which i did and i somewhat enjoyed it, when i was wasted enough to be able to ignore the awful, depressively retarded conversations.
if you like that sort of thing, it's cool. but don't act like your values are better than what others care for or that they're absolute in any way. because they're not. your values are personal. just like everyone else's.
oh and gta4 isn't "mature" because of the killings and swear words. if that's what you got hung upon when playing then you missed the point.
pretty funny to see how people like throwing the word fanboy around, just because others liked something that they didn't. if you don't understand the reasons for someone enjoying something, in spite of said someone explaining in detail what exactly they found worthwhile about it, and you keep throwing words like fanboy around, you're not projecting a pretty good image of yourself. in other words, it makes you look like kids that can't yet use their brains properly (not aimed at anyone in particular).

GTA4 was too realistic, just as dazz said. When I think GTA, I think some over the top crazy shit, not a Russian (fine, Serbian) immigrant and his sad story of discovering what a bullshit illusion the "American Dream" is. I don't think anyone is saying GTA4 is bad (wow, I wish all games were as "bad" as GTA4), just not up to the previous games' standards.

Easy for you to say. In the 80s and early 90s, communism and their stupid censor made America sound like a dream (this is where this "American Dream" came from anyway).

You'd be surprised how many still hold that illusion. It happens so many times (in present day) and people are just so crashed to discover it not the dreamland they had in their minds. Having Bulgarian and Russian friends who have moved to the Americas (Canada, US) and then return because it was even worse than where they started from.

i dont HATE rockstar really, in fact i agree, apart from the gangsta rappa angle that gta sa used, it was a pretty good game.. not vc or gta 3 quality, but a happy third place, especially for the scope of the thing... and i really liked the first gta psp game as well... my only problem with this is like i said, im not convinced they can do anything other than a loud, sweary, tit filled gore-a-thon of a game, which doesnt suit the franchise as far as im concerned... i hope they prove me wrong, but meh, we'll see. |
Couldn't agree more sir!
I think the "mature" tone in GTAIV was good, but the story was full of holes, as was the main character. He was a goddamned gun for hire that felt guilt, but killed anything that moved. I really don't think it was a good character development.

right, because someone who kills for money can't feel remorse.
i'm sure the story would've been tons better and much more realistic if niko was a robot that would just laugh after killing someone, like the guy from sr2 (to take a random example).

No, what I saying is that he talked about guilt all the time, but then when there was money involved he ran around killing everyone. I'm sorry but in the way that was presented I did not buy it. But that's me.

he didn't kill the "good guys". i remember him being sorry for dragging others that he cared about into shit situations, not for shooting some losers, which i found to fit his character perfectly.
he talked about guilt, yes. but not for the reasons you mention. he hoped he wouldn't have to kill people in the states, but that doesn't mean he wasn't ready or willing to do that. he was fine with it. he didn't care about random gangsters. why would he? he killed people in the war, that was nothing new to him.
and yeah, as natan said, he just tried to survive.

now that's comforting
R* aren't noobs and know for the most part what they're doing, they've always being about high production values and polish (minus some of their PC ports eg bully and the highly demanding GTA IV although some patches have made it better)
as gaming developers they sure are familiar with max payne and for the game to succeed they're gonna have to stay true to the original theme, a new story and time wouldn't hurt at all, keep in mind that this is all fiction and is for entertaining purposes and as long as it delivers that I'm all good.

Saw that picture quite a while a go, I actually think the style they went for with max this time round is quite fitting of the story, He just went completely off the rails after seeing his murdered wife and baby, shaved his head and turned into a mental junkie with the pain pills lol.
