Say what you want about Microsoft, they're certainly shaping up lately! The beta of Windows 7 has been a resounding success .. and now you can get their AV/Malware/etc scanner for free!

I've used OneCare in the past and love it, being the only AV solution that actually found and destroyed the Vundo shit my PC contracted. I was actually gutted when the trial period ran out and I had to stop using it. Now everyone can get this set for absolutely free Smile

Maybe when I start to dual-boot in Win7 (when the final release is out), I can get rid of 3rd party antiviruses/firewalls (I use ESET now)

I'll just use Windows Defender and regularly do scans with OneCare.

Off-topic : Is the Win7 firewall like 3rd party solutions ? Do I create rules on-the-fly ? Is it safe ? I don't want anything connecting anywhere unless I specifically allow it.

Well I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky, but it seems this particular online scanner doesn't, currently, work with Win7. I tried the standard link and the one for the "Vista Beta" -- and both complained that it wasn't compatible with my OS (Win7 B1)

I even tried in IE *shudders* No dice.

The Windows firewall is safe. It has been safe since XPSP2. I Vista, and to a much larger extent, Win7, the firewall is even better, with many more options. Smile
