The Path is a short horror game inspired by older versions of Little Red Ridinghood, set in modern day. The Path offers an atmospheric experience of exploration, discovery and introspection through a unique form of gameplay, designed to immerse you deeply into its dark themes. Every interaction in the game expresses an aspect of the narrative. The six protagonists each have their own age and personality and allow the player to live through the tale in different ways. Most of the story, however, relies on your active imagination.

The Path is designed with accessibility in mind. There are no ticking clocks or monsters to defeat. No hard puzzles will ever halt your progress. Most activities in the game are entirely optional and voluntary. The player has all the freedom in the world to explore and experience. The Path is a Slow Game.

Release date: 18 March 2009

Rated:M

This seems to be the surprise of 2009.

Heard about this game a while ago. Nice to see it's finally coming out. Looks like it'll be a bizarre kind of horror, which is always welcome.

Been playing it for a while, bit "odd" but that's not a bad thing as the game is just different, similar to Pathologic and the upcoming "Turgor" game I believe.

You basically control a group of kids wandering around a forest on the way to grandma but taking the direct path usually takes only a few minutes and you'll get a bad score and are told to try again.

Venturing off the path can reveal multiple odd characters and locations and I even managed to kill one of the girls I controlled. (Which the game appears to have liked.)

Controls are pretty basic but be aware that movement is pretty slow at times.
(Can press ESC and adjust a few basic options as well, game looks alright but a bit dated.)

Well it's not exactly on the same scale so don't get your expectations up all too high.

Similar gameplay though with a very open ended world that does it's own thing as you interact with it albeit it's a pretty small game and very experimental.
(The developers also did that granny game where you visit a graveyard and from what I've read you can also randomly die if you bought it.)

Could also be compared a bit to Penumbra I guess but it's not a good comparison.
(There's not as much interactions with various objects and there's a bit less horror, this game is a bit dark though but in a different way.)

Fun to play around with and rather low priced, just a bit difficult for me to explain the game as it's a bit different from most other titles.

Is it anything like this? I think it's an older game made by the same developer.

Off topic, but I'm curious about these games. I see that these are Russian titles. Were they ever released with English translations in the US or Europe?

pathologic is released in english, although badly translated. turgor is only in russian until now, but it should be out in the US sometime after may (from the game's forum)

Another game I'd like to try before buying, but doubt I'll risk the download due to Steam protection. I'm sure it'll be fine and stable and won't affect anything, but I'm just waiting for the Steamworks update that checks for multiple installs of steam/multiple accounts and verifies all files it finds. Not worth the risk, imo.

The current loader method (Revolution loader) doesn't use any accout info at all, haven't tried this game with it but it should work fine.

there's no mention in the info about needing steam installed, so i can't see how it could harm anyone's account since you don't need one to run the game.

This game is pretty cool looking. Is the cpy release available anywhere online?.. I'm not asking for a location, I am just curious if anyone has seen it, or if I should just stop looking for a couple of days.

Damn, I am having the damndest time getting the controls to work. If I push forward it just keeps going forward... it sucks.

Also, are you supposed to be able to see the character you are playing while you are walking around?
