|
 |
My mouse cursor has been jumping ot the edges randomly with my Wireless intellimouse explorer 4.0. Most often it jumps to the right edge.
I've also been having the same problem with other mice (only used MS ones). I have the latest drivers of everyting and Win XP pro SP2.
This problem has existed together with SP1 too. It's damn annoying because it makes me close down windows that I wan't to keep open. I've also noticed this problem when the computer is scanning the usb bus.
I wonder if anyone has the same problem and maybe a solution?

You say it also happens while scanning the usb bus? My first idea would be to use an usb->ps2 adapter and try to connect the mouse to the ps2 port (i am assuming you are using usb right now) and see if that solves your problem. If so you know it is a problem with the usb hub/driver.

I've not tried it but it should work. What's funny is that it's work very good in linux without any hitches and I'm not using any specific driver there just standard. In XP pro I've tried both standard and the Intellimouse 5.2 (latest) ones.

The thing is that I don't have any problems with the mouse in linux. It seems to be the Windows drivers.

I BLAME SERVICE PACK 2..
obviously.. Have you tried using the mouse without the "new" drivers installed? I don't bother using them as they don't improve your mouses performance over the XP defaults.

Ok I've changed surfaces/mousemats and reverted to the default drivers and with no success. I've also changed channels on the wireless receiver/transmitter a couple of times. I have another wireless mouse on another computer but It's pretty long away. And no this problem has been present since the beginning of Windows XP without any Service packs so It's neither SP1 or SP2. I think I'm giving up.

Ok I've localized the problem. It work connected to a usb hub but not directly to the motherboard. Why, don't know. There are no problems in Gentoo when attached to the usb root.

the only explanation wich comes to my mind would be the power. It could be that the usb port on your board doesn't provide the necessary power for the mouse, or the mouse sucks too much of it, the limit for a single device is 500ma, if i remember right.

Nope, not the case because it works in Gentoo if you read my last post. It must be the motherboard driver or the usb controller driver in Windows. Don't know how to fix it thoug but it's ok now on connected to the hub.
