Yeah, Its one of the files in the archive, I just drop the whole thing in and overwrite it all.

I deleted the games storage directory in application data, still crashing. Seems its just the .exe thats causing it.

JBeckman's files along with newest Revloader worked for me. Here's what I did:
1. Install rzr release.
2. Install soundfix from tpb.
3. Extracted JBeckman's large original files into the game directory.(named Test.rar, some 50 megs at page 50 something)
4. Extracted JBeckmans's latest manual patch archive, game dir.
5. Extracted Revloader into the game dir and edited the cfg to use Empire.exe.

Only thing that messed up was that I couldn't load an earlier save from the liberty campaign, but everything from battles to new campaigns works ace.

Thanks a lot JBeckman!

It'd be like pirating MGS....it's just not right......Sad

PS - There's no need to flame me....I'm only pointing out the obvious

The thing is, I will never buy a game again that uses this kind of DRM, where your copy is bound to an online accout which makes it hard or impossible to resell the game. And steam does exactly that. If I buy a physical copy of a game in a store I should be able to resell it if I want to.
Often I'm getting fed up with a game after a few days or a week, then I can just ebay it and get like 70% of the money back, instead of having it collect dust on the shelf.

The number of dev professionals who are complaining that the second-hand market is killing the industry, this type of DRM will only rise and rise. It may not be Steamworks all the way, but lots of people inside the industry are getting fed up with the second-hand sales market. Sad

As an aside, I partially think they're exaggerating, and partially think they're right: walking into a Gamestation and seeing row after row of second-hand games, you're never going to buy a game that's new - you'll just wait for the new release to come on the second-hand market. On the flip-side, if I take a chance on a game and finish it in 3 days (like the first Earthworm Jim on the Megadrive/Genesis), I'd like to be able to claw some of my money back.

Is there anyone having any real success with naval battles? I try using the only tactics that were used at the time , line of battle. However, everything quickly evaporates into a chaotic clusterfuck with ships getting stuck in each other, and blocking each others' broadsides. It seems pretty much impossible to keep any sort of cohesion and keeping the line, or am I just missing something obvious?

And seriously Janz, it's no like it's a lot to check through. The last two steps are in the last two pages, Step 3 is somewhere in the late 50s. Lrn to serch.

Just back from work, still crashes? shouldn't as it worked fine when I tested it, just what the hell is causing this?

I'll figure something out eventually.
(As a somewhat desperate measure did you try to rename the folder which holds settings and saves and such in case something with those messes with the game, shouldn't but worth testing just to be certain.)

I think using steam like this is perfectly fine.
I'd take this over a weird DRM thing that limits you to 3 installs and shit like that any day.

I also think it's a wise choice to do it like this, because it's a win-win situation for developers and publishers.

Situation 1:
Occasional Pirate pirates the game because it uses Steam and he can't sell it on ebay later
Honest Customer buys the game in a store because he can't buy it cheaper on ebay
Outcome: 1 copy sold

Situation 2:
Occasional Pirate buys the game because he can sell it on ebay later
Honest Customer buys the game on ebay because it's 5$ cheaper there than in the store
Outcome: 1 copy sold

So you see, you pirating the game or you selling the game on ebay is pretty much the same thing, but limiting availability on ebay will lead to many more honest customers buying the game in a store where the publishers and devs actually benefit from it.

So the end result will most likely get them more cash while barely hurting people who buy the game and aren't planning on selling it to someone else later (in which case they do just as much damage as a pirate anyway, so if they resort to pirating, it doesn't make a difference)

that's pretty cool, CC :-)

I can usually manage to keep everything in order in my naval battles. It's a good idea to sometimes switch to slow motion mode or even pausing entirely to evaluate the situation and adjust the course of your ships.

I wonder how many people play naval battles by selecting their own ships and right-click-targeting enemy ships and letting them go at it until one side wins.

I like to manually maneuver them around at all times.

Yeah, of course it gets messy when you actually engage, but my example is actually prior to engaging, lol. As long you try to make the line go straight ahead it works kinda ok but you own ships failing to keep the distance and getting stuck in each other isn't uncommon even then. And when you try to turn the line without extreme micromanagement? Woe, woe, woe. The AI doesn't seem to have this problem, they always seem to make excellent turns with it's lines, so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something obvious. Or maybe the difference between a good admiral and a dead admiral in this game just is excessive micro.

Edit: And yeah, I'm already a pause junkie, but I still seem to struggle unless I pause, click each and every ship in turn and give it orders every 15 seconds.

There is a second update, started Steam this morning and it updated the EXE file, can't find out what's been changed but it was easy to see as the filedate differed.

EDIT: Also posted a bit about it on the previous page.

To be honest I don't know if that is what Razor refers to though as the game will also update once you install it via the retail disc as files such as boot.pack, patch.pak and patch_en (For English stuff) is missing from it though by now it (Steam that is) will go straight to the latest available files so this doesn't mean much anymore. As for updates, it only dled a "Steam" update, not game related, so it must be "Razor" rel 2, but don't matter i guess.
