Since I bought a PS3 a month before xmas I havent switched on my 360 ever since. Copying xvids, hd movies to the PS3 HDD has been a blast, Buying Bluray movies which are great, Web Browser included as I dont want to go up stairs to my office if I need to browse for something quickly, changing the HDD to a 500gb was easy, playing LBP, MGS4, KILLZONE2 and UNCHARTED has been great and no worrys if the PS3 will break. I've got my moneys worth.

I like bum.

It's expensive, but it's worth every penny. Apart from a non-existent HDMI cable it comes with everything you need, so there's no further expense aside from the games and films you'll play on it.

I'm not going to make a car analogy because nobody likes them, but yeah...

I wont say 2700 NOK (381 USD, 301 Euro) is that bad for the 40GB imo

My only problem is that i fucking hate the controller. It haven't evolved just a tiny bit from ps2 afaik. 360 controller FTW.

The PS3 is great indeed, but i think it should be used in combination with an xbox. The PS3 is worth it for HD movies, and some exclusive games (LBP, Uncharted, God of War, Metal Gear,...) but if you want to use it as a main gaming console, it'll be very expensive. I used to only own a PS3 and bought all my games (+/- 65€ a piece) but couldn't follow anymore (got way too expensive) so I bought an Xbox 360 that I use for all the multiplatform games, and use the PS3 for playing online, watching DVD's and blu-rays.

Also on the PS3: you can download MKV releases (720 and 1080), convert them to vob, and play them straight from a memory stick or the hard drive.
MKV2Vob is a great too for this.

Actually both the sixaxis and dualshock 3 controllers are much lighter than the originals and now include a primitive form of motion control, not to mention being wireless which means extra weight from the battery pack. So it's not like they haven't evolved a tiny bit, because they have. Not to mention the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons have been transformed into mushy triggers - which was a genuinely bad idea they seem intent on retaining Sad (hence the need for these)

Still; don't forget you can plug in whatever you want so long as it has a USB connection and doesn't require specialised drivers. I'm pretty sure there are 360 adaptors out there, or 360 styled PS3 pads.

Ah yes, the controller - i have to admit i really dislike it.. Too light, not as grip-friendly as the 360, the R/L.triggers are mushy indeed, they dont feel very solid, function-wise.

I think i'm gonna agree with Thomaz here - i wouldn't trade my 360 to have JUST a PS3, but both of them together is very, very nice Smile

Edit:

Oh and:

I'm streaming my MKV's right now with PS3mediaserver, works good so far, except the fact that i can't fast forward/skip (seems limited to 1.5x as of now..).

But then again, i actually dont need it, before i got the PS3 i just used a DVI to HDMI cable from my PC to the projector.. problem is, it only has one HDMI-port, so im gonna have to buy a HDMI-switch soon. Watching movies with PS3mediaserver is OK, but it does not beat my PC with KMPlayver, plus a wireless keyboard and mouse for when im sitting in the couch Smile

Exactly Sin. I love having both as well, even though my PS3 is really just my blu-ray player.

Have fun.

I game on my PS3 about once a month, check whats new on PSN. But i use my 360 daily.

the best combo to have..

x360 for gaming.

popcorn hour for streaming hd media, etc

why would you waste money on a ps3 only for exclusive and the dying bluray format? makes no sense.. oh i forgot.. because "it's a sony"

LoL

yep, silly comment.

BR isn't dying and is still in its infancy. Yeah, sales figures for last year were generally below the predicted sales but by no means can you say its dying, its growing.

BR isn't going away as we won't get SHV with 22.2 until at earliest 2015 but most broadcasters are saying 2017.

I am on an 'unlimited' tariff but as the internet has gotten faster and more people have gotten connected the quality of the service has degraded. With both traffic shaping and a capping of connection speeds I've given up on downloading high quality rips and instead rely upon rental services (like Netflix) for the stuff I don't want to own.

US has Bandwidth limits. Comcast has limited people to 250 gigs per month. AT&T is toying with it also in Nevada and their's is 120 gigs/ month.
Comcast gives you one warning if you go over, and if you do it again within a 6month period you lose service for a year.
Comcast has a monopoly in lots of places including where I live.
The good news for me is fiber optic is coming for me with its first customers going online in May. I will be flipping Comcunt the finger and enjoying my new 100mbs upload/download connection with no limits that I know of.

Whats really stupid is the number of people (users) that actually agree with the bandwidth limits. Probably the fuckers that don't have HDTV's or know how to take advantage of the Internet. A lot of us Americans are fucking ignorant that's for sure.
