Taikodom online

About Taikodom
4. How is Taikodom different from another MMOG (Massively Multiplayer On-line Game)?

The most striking difference is when two ships get to face each other. Ordinary MMOGs such as EVE Online, features a point-and-click system, stats and skills. In Taikodom you get to pilot the ship yourself just as in Freelancer and X2. But the big difference lays in the skill each player has based on the following required knowledge:

- Getting to know the universe;

-Knowing how to use your resources (ex.: Certain weapons are better against certain ships and so on)

-Being able to coordinate and join efforts with other pilots. It is quite evident that union and organization are very important features in Taikodom.

-Being talented in the profession you choose. Piloting, trading, writing, meaning mastering your skills to succeed in society.

-Collecting and managing resources (money, equipments, ships, etc).

btw, the freespace 2 open source projects (babylon 5 and battlestar galactica) look nice, anyone played them yet?

The latest news I read (very old) about Btrl were that it´ll be released after the end of the show (two weeks from now), but i think they lost part of the dev team, and it looks like another Black Mesa Source...Sad. Don´t know about the other.

its too bad that battlestar galactica wasn't made into a good game. The one that sierra developed was horrific!

Thanks for all the replies Smile I definitely will be checking out some of the games mentioned. Its too bad that Freelancer 2 was canceled. I've even seen an online petition for it. You would think MS would see that there is some money to be made with making another Freelancer. Especially since 20159 people signed the petition.

Some months ago I downloaded Freespace 2 and the bitch needed a joystick. I liked Freelancer's control scheme.

Freelancer 1 i believe was meant to be a MMO, which pretty much explains why there will be no part 2 (but then we can always hope) and also goes a long way to explain the games structure.

i played this game ALOT, and love it, but i recently tried to play again and could not stomach it anymore, its just so damned dull after awhile and there is not enough to do.

maybe you should try a mod for it, are there any big mods for single player?

i cant really recommend any games like Freelancer, and its not because i have not looked! there is nothing available with the excellent mouse control. the best replacement i found was EVE online, but the problem with that game is its like having a second job imo. not very casual.

other games i looked into were: freespace 2 (needs controller, older graphics, hard to find), IW2 (ok game, graphics are ok), Darkstar One (didnt get into it, needs controller, felt like a console game), EVE Online (excellent game but a HUGE timesink, control is point and click), Tachyon: The Fringe (voicework by Bruce Campbell, older) game). X3 imo is SLOW, boring, runs like dogshit, and the combat simply sucks.

It's very much worth it. There really is no better space based shooter around. The game being open source now also means the community updated the graphics and all to modern standards.

Ignore (or chuckle at, to further increase game enjoyment) the poor Engrish translations for text/voices .. and the game is amazing. At least, to me it is. Amazingly fun and very enjoyable.

As far as Freelancer on Vista? IIRC it runs perfectly.

Hard Truck: Apocalypse seems fun, the only issue I'm having with it is that the process won't quit if you exit via the in-game menu. Therefore the graphical settings won't stick either, so I have to set them again every time & I can't edit the cfg file for a proper widescreen resolution.

I played Freespace 2 from start to finish just fine with a mouse, so much so I wouldn't use a joystick, crazy precise shots ftw. You will have to pan a bit with the mouse, but I assure you its fully playable with mouse.

That's bizarre :-\

Are you running from a proper installed ISO or CD? No rip? Checked that the files aren't set to read-only? Running on Vista, tried XP compat mode (I don't need compat for Vista, but you never know)

I've been playing Hard Truck and it's quite fun. Wish there would be more missions, is the sequel any better?

Used the RLD release, on vista 64 tho so that might be messing it up - will give the compatibility mode a try later on. No biggie tho, since I found out that the resolution doesn't change back to the standard 1024x768 even if the game crashes on exit (crash as in ending it from the task manager instead of properly quitting), so every time I start the game I just need to go to options and change the graphic settings to maximum. Smile

Edit: ^ could even skip that by editing the cfg for max. settings directly and flagging it read-only, but meh, with so many options I just can't be arsed to find out what is what. Laughing

It's not really a sequel, as such, more just a follow-up with a different "protagonist"

Oh and yes, it's better. Tons more missions, trucks, items, weapons, etc.
