First of all, the game is not unplayable. Yes, there are issues with it and i hope they will patch it soon. Yes, you can have bad luck and get a great game thrown out the window because of a corrupted game state that causes you to crash on turn processing. You know what?
Its still one of the best games i've played in a good while and quite frankly if you think this game sucks for ANY reason, then i would love to know what term you would use to describe the steaming pile of horse cr*p thats usually thrown at us with the label: "computer game".
With that being said, i did play virtually non stop through the week and quite frankly the only reason im not playing right now is because i have to work. During this time i might have encountered maybe half a dozen crashes and one corrupted save game.
Its sure as hell not a perfect score, but anybody coming here and claiming that 5-6 crashes in 40+ hours of gameplay render a game 'unplayable' then i can only say: get your eyes checked, because i'm living proof that it is playable.
As for what you would really love to pay for.. if you like this game, the FFS buy it. If you do not want to buy it for ANY reason despite spending days playing it, then at least do us the favor of not trying to explain why.
As for the rest of the whine squad. I can only quote a famous line: "Get a life." |
I'm not claiming this is a bad game - on the contrary, I like it a lot and was very impressed with the time I spent on the campaign prior to losing my saves. But therein lies the problem.
An undefinable bug that may or may not suddenly appear and corrupt all your saves not only ruins that particular campaign, but also casts a shadow over every new game you start. Playing with a sword of Damocles above your head, knowing that each turn could come with a sudden end to your campaign and throw all your savegames out the window, effectively erases the fun. I could spend 50 hours on an awesome campaign and really get into it and then woosh, all gone, leaving me extremely unsatisfied, and not really in the mood to gamble with another 50 hours, without some kind of guarantee or evidence that the same thing won't happen again.
Obviously, this is unrelated to any qualities of the game itself. E:TW is an awesome game, but that doesn't really matter in this kind of case. In fact, it makes it even more frustrating, as a bad game with this kind of bug you could just forget about. Reports so far seem to indicate that both the pirated and retail/steam versions are susceptible to this bug, and thus I don't feel like spending money on it until I know more. If this seems so foreign to you, I guess you're just more fond of taking chances with your time and money, for potentially extremely unsatisfactory outcomes.

Wtf were they thinking with mortars? You get them very early in campaign and they stay the best canons for whole game. Nothing else even comes close to how devastating they are.

Does anyone have a digital copy of it perhaps? |
I could scan and upload my map , but there is a catch - map is in Russian

LOL @ this so called "PROPER". It's so obvious that this is just a repacked RZR release with included sound_sfx and not a real proper.

Am i right in thinking that the only reason we can't play this as if it were the retail version, is because no one has yet monitored what files get updated and then uploaded them?

Yep, there are none... It's sad, I loved the speeches. I also miss camera following a unit you double click -- so you can enjoy cavalry cutting down units that are retreating.
More features as well, I can't recall all.
On another note - playing as Prussia reminded me what Total War is all about and not this prestige bullshit. Territorial expansion -200 diplomacy points ahoy!

Mortars are incredible inaccurate, especially compared to other artillery. I haven't played multiplayer yet thought but I can imagine if you have a few mortar units at least a few shells will hit.

Interesting link Cartoon, used the utilities there to compare the files in main.pack and patch.pak and there's quite a few changes, also followed the tutorial on how to unlock the special units though I haven't tested those yet.

Steam updated yesterday, no more "Game is not available" etc. At least the game runs/starts fine now.

I think it's the 'delete' button. Has been the same in any Total War.

Is there a final time limit or just a victory timer? In other words, does the game allow playing after 1799, even though you can't achieve anything other than world domination?
