The menu is sooo much better now, doesn't feel like the consolized bullcrap it used to be. Sadly its still not up to Unreal standards though.

You don't have to download the whole game through steam. Install the regular version, patch it with patch 2.0 and Titan pack, then follow the instructions in this thread.

Edit yet again: OK, this is all I did. I will leave the long way below just in case you need to.
It's all in the KEY from Steam.
Start the Steam install for UT3, stop it and right click the DL for props. Get the KEY.
Browse to the Unreal Engine configuration file found at: C:\Users\YOUR_USER\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini
Open the file, and near the end you will see this header:
[OnlineSubsystemGameSpy.OnlineSubsystemGameSpy]
Beneath the header lies your key, in encrypted format.
Remove the line that contains the key (in my case: EncryptedProductKey=001000000000208140157etc).
Restart Unreal Tournament III, and it will ask you for your key.
Put in the Steam one and play online while you can. It's all in the key.

Yes, it is as I pointed out below. However, there is a silver lining because Epic had the good sense not to force Steam on those that don't want it. People who want to play the game during the free weekend can do the following steps to actually do so:
1. Install Steam.
2. Go to steam://run/13210 in your web browser.
3. Agree to install Unreal Tournament III when prompted.
4. Exit Steam when you get the error message that the Steam servers are too busy.
5. Download the Unreal Tournament III catalog files for Steam from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WRRDKXL4
6. Extract the ZIP archive into the "steamapps" subdirectory where Steam is installed.
7. Relaunch Steam and go to "My Games."
8. Right-click on Unreal Tournament III and choose "View CD Key".
9. Write down the CD key.
10. Exit Steam.
11. Uninstall Steam and say good riddance to bad rubbish.
12. Edited....... Get the game somewhere 
13. Download the game. Unlike Valve the pirates will actually deliver.
14. Download the v2.0 patch and the Titan Pack from one of the many mirror sites. I recommend Filefront because it almost always gives me my maximum download speed.

I decided to give this game a try and even with the free trial the game seemed so dead. Last night I was playing on the lowest pinged server to me which contained like 10 bots, one other person, and myself. The game just isn't fun.

I cant seem to create a profile....i write a different name PW but putting my e-mail address correctly in capslock,and guess what?,"it cant be created bcz the username coincides with the e-mail/password/wtf"
cant be true!,i even tried:
User: Amparo
PW: Pozineng
E-mail: (Not telling)@HOTMAIL.COM
then that message appears,but i tell ya my email doesnt contains those user/PW words..WTF IS WRONG?
and...THE GAME IS ORIGINAL,BOUGHT FROM RETAIL,DVD VERSION,SPECIAL EDITION,NO PIRATE...for 20€ that costed me x3

That is a strange problem. If you have any friends that you can trust (preferably not online) that also has the game then I would suggest just having them make the profile for you.

the games release was a joke itself. It wasn't even a decent tech demo for the engine.
Obnoxious interface, Deleted ALL the hundreds of models and added a couple "factions", dleted a few modes then added like one, no new guns.
All it was, was UT2004 or whatever with a facelift |

How big is the download for this steam version if you purchase it?
EDIT: Never mind. Saw the space requirements of 8 gigs so i am assuming the download is close to that.

i dont know about other people, but i've been playing ut3 online with the reloaded keygen since it was released, and im even tried the steam key and it also still works online, i can join games and everything.

A key from the RELOADED keygen..? That has to be bullshit. I think everyone here must have tried to play with one of them keys and it just didn't work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keygen#Problems_with_keygens
EDIT: Although i wouldn't be surprised if they stopped giving a dam about ppl having a legit key. The game isn't great and its getting on a bit.

not bullshit... cause when i generated the key, it was all random characters, not the standard blah-blah-blah-rld, it was all random characters, it worked, and i was able to play online, my buddy tried this as well. maybe we got lucky and the keygen made a key that was acutally legit, but it works, also, why would i try to lie about... using a keygen... doesnt make any logical sense.
*update - just to make sure it worked, i redled the keygen, generated a key, ran ut3, it asked me to a key again, like it always does (ut3 bug) used the new key, logged into my profile (didnt bother making a new profile), went online and played...
id post the key, but its probably against forum rules

i've had it for months & this weekend's player count increased a lot
$11 & people still complain? that's the price of the indie games on steam with tons more content + MODS + online + very decent visuals (without being overly demanding)
the purchase decision should mainly be if this is your game style & setting (& if you're fine with ut99 movement over 2k4)
goawayz, are you patched to 1.4+titan pack? & are you on vista with UAC on? profile info & ini tweaks/settings are in the mydocuments folder so an issue like that probably is something to do with the OS

Is it worth giving this another try? I own the game but find DM pretty boring.. Has the patch made the base type game modes any more interesting?

First of all i got to get this off my chest. I FUCKING hate all this login shit, spend good 10 minutes trying to figure out my old password and account since I apparently made it ages ago. Resetting my email and password. Miss good old days when all you do is start the game, now you have to fucking remember all your account shit.
But the game itself is fucking fun. The last time i played it was when that "full" beta or something came out, and i only played SP. Since it was a free weekend i decided to try it again. But the freaking servers were busy so for 3 days i couldnt dl it, so i just said fuck it and bought it. Finally finished dling today, and the dl was SLOW. Sometimes it would go into 800kbs/ but then drops.
After finally figuring out my old account, i got into the game. I felt like the menu is very consolized, double clicking shit is unresponsive and the whole thing is just geared towards consoles. But who cares, its just a menu. So i selected teamdeath match but found only few servers with low enough ping, and the first one i joined was empty even though it said some people were playing it. Then i tried CTF and it was a blast. I had no idea what i was doing since i didnt know the map so i just went killing people. Firefights are fucking awesome, really fast paced and in your face. I got several multikills and then my character grew up and i went into 3rd person. I had no idea wtf happend but I think i had more health and rocket launcher, so i killed even more people.
The graphics are nice, but the map i played everything was the same shade of shitty-brown and it was seriously hard to tell where to go since everything looked the same. I didnt have time to look at details and models, but they seemed nice. Though that Unreal engine thingy where textures are loading slower is very noticeable.
Overall id say it definitely worth 12 bux. Though im afraid its going to die out pretty fast. List for teamdeath match was short, with max of like 8 people playing on one server. CTF looked better and the first lowest ping server i joined had maybe 13 people. I didnt try other mods so cant say how populated they are.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
