wtf, this is lame. if this is a 4hr game, they'd better be already working on the sequel. |
It's an indie title. And according to the devs, the story is concluded so direct sequel isn't possible. But we'll see once the game actually comes out.

I was about to buy it, added to my cart and everything, I go to checkout, select paypal and needed to fill names, addresses, locations, telephone numbers so I just closed the shit.
If I wanted to give info I'd just put it in my steam account profile. Why not pirate it and save myself the trouble ?
And yeah, I could put fake crap in there, but they also can disable my account at any moment.

Pre-ordered on Steam (man, a lot of indie games were added to the store today!!). I've been looking forward to this since it was announced in August 2007, and have been keeping really a close eye on the developer's progress via their community. They seem like really cool guys. I was totally ready to pay the $20 price they initially announced, and though even that was generous, but I almost feel like I'm cheating them, at just $10.
Can't wait.

The game will be available on Direct2Drive as well, if you don't like that.

Sounds about right to me. Remember, this game is $20 (or $10, right now). We used to call games at this price "budget games."
People pay $50 for 12-hour games all the time. Or how about Mirror's Edge, a $50 game that was, what, 5 hours (great game, though)? A 4 hour game for $20 sounds perfectly fair to me. This is cheaper than going out to a movie, for crying out loud, and about the same price as a typical one-hour long music album. You can hardly buy a t-shirt for this price.
If you had told me 10 years ago that one day, games as good-looking as Zeno Clash could be bought for $20, or games as good as The Maw would be available for $10, or games as good as Braid would be $15, or games as good as Bionic Commando Rearmed would be $10, or games as good as World of Goo would be $15, I never would have believed you.
Do people not remember that throughout most of gaming history, pretty much all games have always been the same high prices? 50 hour games with multiplayer usually cost as much as 4 hour single-player only games. Ultima VII cost the same price as Star Wars: Rebel Assault (which was only a couple of hours long, literally). On the console side, Chrono Trigger cost the same price as Final Fight (a great game, but short).
Gamer's expectations these days are just spiraling out of control.

No, I expect a game to last at least 15 or so hours.
I disliked Mass Effect because for an 'epic' space opera it was so fucking short. And I didn't bother with Mirror's Edge.
The game should have had multiplayer at least. To extend playtime, because I doubt it'll have much replayability. Well apart from that tower survival mode.
Also I pre-ordered it while you were typing your rant. Sorry.

So you're suggesting a universal minimum time requirement? That's narrow-minded. Games should last as long as they can, while still being good. Not every single game is suited to being an epic.
As I said, your expectations are running away with you and making you expect unrealistic things. It's unfair to expect a $20 game developed by a first-time, independant studio to not only be unique, artistically outstanding, and technically impressive, but to be 15 hours long, have a deep multiplayer component, and still be priced at $20.
The problem with a singular judgment scale, like what you suggest, is that it's unfair to apply it to games of different costs. Everythign is relative.
You should be thankful that we now have new distribution channels for games like these, where they have new options for fair pricing. No, this game does not look like it would be worth, say, $50, but throughout most of gaming's history, a game like this would have been sold at a price like that (and many still are), along with all the other games.

The developer has explained that they simply do not have the resources to do that right now. Developers don't just push a button and automatically have a multiplayer component magically generated for them.

But if it doesn't have much replay value, then it should be designed to last a while.
They could easily have just provided a difficulty slider that increased the number of opponents you had to face at certain parts of the game.
It could get tiring, but only at the highest difficulty level and should make the game last longer.
I certainly don't want them pulling a DMC4 recycling plan.

So am I to take that as if the game becomes a success, the next installment will have multiplayer? I hope so.

Like I said, that just doesn't work for all games.

I'm actually unaware; have they commented on difficulty settings?

That's what they've said, assuming that multiplayer would be suitable for their next game (which may or may not be a ZC follow-up).

Looks like a 10,000 BC or Apocalypto game. I enjoyed the latter so will give this a go. Going to give the youtube gameplay video a watch. I hope it's good because this is a very nice looking unique game.
