Try deleting your clientregistryblob thing in your steam directory. Restart STEAM... and then double click UT3 in the game list and wait for some results. STEAM has always been finickity with these things. It's a shame actually...

Have you also tried changing your download server? If you're persistent enough you should get through. I had the same problems at first.

I am starting to think the same thing.

And to think I was about to buy Dawn of War 2 and Empire on Steam. Mhm...

The download speed for me is very inconsistent and keeps jumping between 40-900KB/s and then even going back to the "Download starting..." text. O.o
Very erratic behaviour for me since I usually download around 900-1500KB/s but then again I've never downloaded anything when a new game came out or when there's this special offer.

Ohh yeah, forgot to mention that I've been downloading it for quite some time now and it's still only on 17%... T_T

I keep giving STEAM the benefit of the doubt and keep on giving it a chance, but everytime I do so, it spits in my face. :/

I have NEVER had a good experience with STEAM, and yet, people defend it religiously. I don't understand this.

Pretty much what this guy said..... ^_^

The free weekend offer has been advertised on sites like Kotaku so it's going to be hammered alongside the Empire release. I just got kicked off the servers myself but had a good run at least. Room for improvement on STEAM's part though I agree.

You probably don't understand it because you're blaming Steam instead of your ISP, the latter of which is where most of the problems with Steam lie. As an example, Steam is spotty for me at school but works perfectly at home. This particular case is one of the few exceptions where Steam is truly to blame for connection problems, since everyone and his mother is downloading UT3 right now for the free weekend.

Now if you want to complain about how games tend to be priced on the European client, or how you have to go online at least occasionally to play offline games, or about how it sometimes bugs out and you have to delete clientregistry.blob for no apparent reason, I think you'd have a stronger position...

If his ISP works perfectly fine everywhere but on Steam it should be Steams fault, no?

We don't know that it does. I'm curious as to how well torrents work for him (especially unencrypted and on a standard port). And even if it does, that doesn't necessarily indict Steam; ISPs can be very selective in their filtering and throttling. The easy counterquestion would be, "If Steam works well for me and a lot of other people, then how likely is it that Steam is the problem for this particular user?"

Now, would I like it if Steam gave us more control over our network settings, such as which ports to use? Certainly, but you don't see other commercial digital distribution networks giving you that functionality either, so you can't single out Steam for that.

Same as everyone else here for me as well. Tried switching servers. Sux.. Hopefully around 4am later it will die down.
I just had a bad experience with EA's Download BS too. I bought BF2142 a long time ago and thought it would be fun to play again.I didn't know (unlike Steam) that you only retain the game for a year. Now they offer a multiple year option but I'm pretty sure they didn't have that when I got the game about 18-20 months ago. I also bought a copy for my son so I am out 80 bucks. Grrrrrrr

If you retained the serials I'd just download the pirated version. Works with most games, but not familiar with BF2142.

But this is a new version (UT3 'Black'). It incorporates the new patch and the Titan pack. So it will be stuck on updating. (Also, I think the Steam version is a little bit different than the retail). Smile

lol.

The days left until promotion expires column is beginning to look a lot like the 'days left til you've downloaded it' column.

Could be that Steam's Scandinavian servers aren't up to snuff. That's unfortunate if that's the case. Good thing I live in America; all I have to worry about over here is the end of civilization. Laughing

Now that I'm back home, I can see exactly how bad it is. I can't even get it to start downloading right now. I wonder if Valve or Epic (whoever's decision it is) will extend the weekend?

Edit: Just tried downloading another game, and its speed is fine. Hmm. At least the problems are isolated, I guess.

So what is the online population like as a result of the Titan pack? Are there actually more than two hundred players logged in simultaneously?

Well depends on what you consider best. For me, UT2004 is still the best, but this one is cool as well. UT99 is the most popular.

It's just my opinion, but i found UT3 to be the worst one ever.

It was (or still is? did they at least removed the ps-like menu ?) heavily consolized.Has terrible bloom & blur effects on the ugly U3 engine and was nothing like the UT99 in terms of accessibility

The game felt striped compared to the previous with fewer modes.. (i think that the bonus pack fixes it a bit?)

I like the most the first UT - without all the vehicle crap that followed...

I'm still having download problems. I quit, it's not worth it to wait for 1 day to download and then to play for only a few hours.

PS. Don't blame my ISP. He's just fine.

Menu is redone in Titan patch.
