Any other PSP gamers here waiting for this little diamond? Originally slated for a "Summer 2009" release, even though it's been out in Japan for over 8 months, now Sega have done something that would make most developers/publishers cringe in agony; they've pulled BACK the release date! The game is now due for release at the beginning of March 
Secondly, as of today Sega released their "Special Trial" demo version of the game on the US PSN and it weighs in at a memstick-friendly 271MB. Unfortunately, it's ONLY available on the US network, so some very wonderful GODLY person has uploaded it for us all to enjoy. I'm downloading the demo right now. I have HIGH hopes for this, as I utterly ADORE the Phantasy Star series (and Phantasy Star Universe on the 360/PC just flatout rules. The PS2 version is horridly slow though)

Phantasy Star Portable is a video game for the PlayStation Portable. It is being produced by Sonic Team and developed by Alfa System.
The PSP title is said to include an all-new story mode with added missions and a multi-player mode that supports cooperative play up to four players; and appears to be local multiplayer only. Judging from the scans seen of the two-page Famitsu preview, it also is shown that there will be at least two additional characters introduced: Vivienne, a character with whom players will team up, and Helga Neumann, a villain who is responsible for terrorist attacks in the Gurhal System. What is currently being called "Phantasy Star Portable" will be based on Phantasy Star Universe and its latest expansion, Ambition of the Illuminus.
Phantasy Star Portable was released in Japan on July 31 2008. It was first confirmed at Tokyo Game Show 2008 that Phantasy Star Portable would be coming to stateside in March 2009 and since been confirmed by SEGA of America that the stateside release of this title will be happening on March 3, 2009.
A demo of Phantasy Star Portable was released and is available for direct download on several websites. The demo is in Japanese, and allows players to complete two missions in the Story mode. The game also allows you to play 5 Multi-player missions by yourself, although you may add additional AI characters to your party from the menu. The missions include one in which you slay the De Ragan, an enemy from Phantasy Star Universe. There are C and B variants of this mission. You can reach a maximum level of 20 in the demo, and you can transfer characters between multiplayer and single-player.
The retail version includes the option of importing the character created in the demo version of the game as well as two downloadable missions. One of them to exchange items called "Weapons Badge" for items and weapons and another that consists of a time attack against defeated bosses.
Players will able to create their own character using the following settings--face, face model, eye color, eyebrows, eyelashes ears, head type, body color, porportion, jacket, pants, shoes, voice type, and voice pitch. Character creation is said to go even farther than past games.
The game also has eight slots for saving characters, opposed to only four in the Playstation 2 versions.

Yes and No. It's just like the original Phantasy Star Universe. There's a pretty large SP campaign, as well as ad-hoc 4 player multiplayer.
The PC and console versions are MMORPGs, with SP campaigns.
