Played through the demo a couple of times, it was pretty good. But too much gun use for my taste. The execution moves are as awesome as the video's make them look.

Very good, looks like starbreeze did an amazing job, with the engine and spec keeping true to the butchers bay feel, thats rare in the companys today and must be praised, kudos.
In case anyone cares I figured out the counter-kill mechanic. When in melee, block and just before the enemy hits you press attack while still holding block. You have to time it just as the enemy begins their attack animation.
You can also do this when the enemy has a ranged weapon by getting up close and doing the same thing when they go to hit you with the butt of their gun. I've managed to go through the whole demo without using a gun this way, apart from the drone control section of course. Very satisfying!

I don't remember much about melee in original, maybe because I don't like melee that much in games but this game has melee too. You can use different weapons for melee combat. The most fun in the demo was controlling replica soldiers (or whatever they are called). If one dies you start to control a new one right away. How to stop a giant industrial fan? Yup, jump in it with a replica.
The game feels very much like original and multiplayer preview video when exiting demo looked kinda dull, but I don't care about multiplayer in this game.
Haha, well share some details about the gameplay. From the original's demo, I knew the game was a winner. Same feeling here?
No actually, you're really not given enough freedom in the demo to be able to tell how the final game will play. But I know it's going to be good, just based on the fact that 40% of the game is a Butcher Bay remake.
The melee in the demo is usually against either multiple people, or people with ranged weapons. So you have to go for the kill and can't have much fun messing around with them like you could in the original game. Plus it's essentially just a series of corridors and rooms with enemies to get past. There is a short diversion where you get to control humanoid drones, but it's fairly limited.
One cool thing I noticed though was how the drones function when they're hunting you. If they're unaware of your presence they function on their own meagre initiative, which you can tell by the flashing lights on their faceplate. But if you alert them somehow, a human takes control of them and they suddenly become much more formidable. It feels like a wholly uncontrived way of encouraging stealth without forcing it.

Actually I'm really enjoying this, just trying to go through the demo using only his bare hands. Once you get the hang of the counter, melee becomes much more fun.
It's only a counter-kill if the enemy is already weakened though, so a fight can go on for a while if you're just using fists.

Just downloaded the demo for my ps3, too bad installing takes longer than downloading it -_-. Cant wait to play it, gonna post some impressions later if there is any
Am I missing something?
I downloaded the demo on 360 and thought I was in the xbox Riddick game, the colours are flat, muddy and controls stiff.
While I loved the xbox game I cannot believe they couldn't do better on the Tree6Tee.

Yeah I wasn't too impressed by xbox demo either. Let's wait for final version for our trusty PCs before judging the game thou
This is weird I went to install Butcher Bay and it wouldn't even start the setup on Vista? I did some looking and it looks like you have to install on XP SP3 do the 1.01 patch and then copy the install directory to Vista and play the game. No registry entries needed. Anyone else run into this on Vista? I have a dual boot Windows 7 and Vista system so I am screwed unless someone else knows how to install Butcher Bay on Vista. Now, to wait until all the "I had no problem installing Butcher Bay on Vista" replies come in! LOL!
I always feel like the first one to have such problems. If worse comes to worse I will just hook up another drive and install XP really quick. Just cannot believe this is the only way. I will keep googling too.
TIA,
MD
Edit - I also tried compatibility mode and it failed.
