+1 to comments above. An upgrade is what this next Total War should be, not a whole revisioning of the series.

And I speak as someone who was pretty disappointed with the latest medieval tw. Not because they didn't change enough, just what they focused on changing. It seemed like all skin-deep improvements, graphics, numbers of units, ect. Whereas this iteration of the series actually addresses the more substantial changes I've been looking forward to for years: AI improvements, strategy map enhancement, diplomacy, more choices in ruling your empire, a better linear historical campaign, and yes even multiplayer- that isn't just skirmish battles but full campaigns.

So yes, naval battles + MP is really skimming the surface of the changes Empires brings to the table.

Point of my reply was to draw attention to people talking out of their asses that have never played the release, but age old demo and read reviews (commercials)... If you remember how much hype did they create about Medieval Total War... it sounded like totally new cornerstone in TW series, and in the end it ended being above-average when all was summed up and emotions have passed...

People are acting like they are being trolled, and not even reading every word that I have written.

And I'll repeat what I said, I don't want to defend or attack the game, but want only to calm down damn over-spilling emotion avalanche that has clogged this thread, so that people can actually inform about new events...

P.S.
My point about what ETW in core (read:core) brings totally new, and not seen in any TW series, or wasn't expanded like any series had (diplomacy, AI, graphic...) is Campaign multilayer and Naval Battlefields...

P.P.S.
If you read carefully every posts, it will be seen that I never said this game stinks, or that it will stink. But you put words in my mouth when you answer to my posts, like I attacked the game... I only attacked commercializing about it...

So you're basically saying that people should calm down and not go with the hype. Did you by yourself figure out this innovative and ingenious notion? And as several people said, the game might not have many "in your face" changes, but it has many small improvements which do add up.

I couldnt care less if you attacked the game or not, its not my job to defend it.
But you still said that MTW / M2TW was a crappy game without mods, and that ETW doesnt bring much new to the table, and i just disagree.
Thats it, ROAAAAR!!!!

Release today? Very Happy

This will be another Total War. Just improving/ polishing all the possibility's you already have from previous titles would make it good on my book and thats what they have done, nothing more.
But it could be more, and i would like to see a bolder move from Ca

I think the Campaign map, specially, transpires the same old game. Never liked the toy looking 3d campaign map - Your supposed to be a King and General sending thousands to death and glory! Why not a proper more conservative mature map! Whats wrong with a 2d map! with more movement possibility's.

Additionally i would like to see an increase scope on the battles (adding a 3º level between the turn based campaign and the tactical play) where you move huge army's around a region making batles last for days or more...

Well im getting it any way, no real competitors out there. There are good/ better tactical rts and there are good/ better strategic games but no Game can match the scope of TW.

Why have nobody in the game industry picked up on the concept? UFO uses this approach and Close Combat 4/5 to but on a lower level and they are great games

Glad its a upgrade and fresh new things from M:TW... unlike DOW2 where they thought it was brilliant to dumb the game down to appeal to the masses.. Razz

On topic, the new Diplomacy system really looks snazzy.. hope the AI won't do wierd things though.. Very Happy

Yes, since Dawn of War was always supposed to be an RTS based in the Warhammer universe, not a Warhammer tabletop-to-pc conversion, there are other games for that.

Finally, the preload has started. Smile Nice speed too, 1.2mbits. Tip, connect with USA servers, most Americans are still in bed or having coffee at work.

What's the actual release date then? Steam says 3rd for me but game.co.uk says the 4th, i'm guessing the game will get unlocked late at night UK time on steam with the boxed versions getting delivered the following morning?

There's a lot of confusion about that. I'm not sure.

I'd just like to thank SycoShaman for putting up that list for potential players. I've played all Total Wars since Shogun, but was preparing to skip this one due to time problems. Then I did some research and fell in love with the series all over again and decided to pre order that instance.

Yeah, I talked to some other people too. Apparently so far I'm the only being able to preload out of the three people I talked to.

I've been so close to pre-ordering a number of times but each time decided that I'd rather get the boxed version. Then I ALMOST pre-ordered this morning but damn am I happy I didn't seeing as how the pre-loading seems really messed up and ofc the obvious thing that it's not cheaper via steam even though you dont get a box, papermanual etc etc.

Luckily I have Drakensang to hold me over until ETW is released in the stores Smile

Dump steam,
Amazon.uk as already shipped this morning, i presume other online stores have done it to.
You save 20€ get the physical thing on your hands and will get to play when it unlocks on steam as anyone else that got it after a 15gb download...

Game uses Steam for verification doesn't it? So you still have to enter the key via Steam and won't need the disc after installation is finished.
(Might never need it if you just take the key and download via Steam but it would probably be faster to use the disc.)

Sure steam is nice for not having a box around but whats the point of paying some 15-20 euros more when the boxed version is cheaper with the shipping included?

Yeah it sucks that it's illegal to throw the box in the trash if you don't like it.

I won a shirt from Palit. It shipped from Taiwan. I got it four months later thanks to customs.

Then again, if I bought something and had it shipped via DHL or something and not the free shipping, it'd be here in a week I guess.

So yeah.

Just tried the demo, I wanted to wait for the full game to not spoil the tutorial etc, but i couldn't resist.

I love the Naval combat, it has a lot more direct control compared to the rest of the game. The details are also outstanding, the sailors on deck, when you drop the anchor at full speed the ships leans forward from the chain pulling.

To bad the boxed version also needs steam, im a little worried by having a steam account with legal games, while having used (and still using) cracked steam.
