Yeah that sucks that most non-Valve games are non-preloaded. And sometimes it seems a mystery as to when Valve seems to want to "push the button" on release day. Those things and the LOOOONG wait for patches for many of my non-valve steam games has set me on a mini-boycott of the service. Until I see a fan-freaking-tastic deal or some better customer response with the service, I'm going back to buying boxed copies.

I was thinking about getting it on steam so I can play it asap, but I think I'll just order a boxed copy from the UK instead, considering it's only like 32€ with shipping. |
They said pre-load 48 hours before release. 9 hours left for that.

hmmm, just played the demo and i must say it's very nice. too bad hand combat has been replaced by rifles and so on. i really liked that on all TW games. i think we will finally have a more than decent game, cos most of this years releases were .... mediocre. only a few were above!

STEAM really is fucking insane when it comes to their prices - they charge retail when they have absolutely no expenditures besides pure bandwidth.
STEAM cost to sell = Bandwidth
Retail Cost to sell = Logistics, Packaging, Manual and DVD duplication, bonus content duplication.
What you get with STEAM = Download whenever you want
What you get with Retail = Game box, game manual, game DVD, bonus edition content +++ download whenever you want! (as it registers via STEAM)
They can argue it all they want - its simple greed playing upon the convenience factor of consumers. In this case - you honestly are better off just picking it up retail or paying the extra $10 for one day shipping (especially for the CE).
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

end of OT about steam last - they recently changed currency for EU to euro - now the same gamses cost the same $ as euro maybe there is a way to buy the game in $ and get refund in Euro ;p
steam should learn - just like the ebooks there is few places that sell PDF's instead of the dead tree versions - for the cut price ( usually -20 to even -80 % ... )

Call me an old bastard but I prefer to own the box myself. If they want me to pay for a digital download only they have to sweeten the deal. A lot. Price is a good sweetener I'm told.

I do agree that it is impossible to enjoy vanilla RTW after RTR, or vanilla M2TW after the Shattered Steel mod.
But what you fail to realize is that its because the vanilla game was AMAZING, so amazing that the most talented modders in the game community comes together to make it even more amazing..
Its the same thing with Oblivion, when it first came out everyone was like OMFGBBWPWNAGE! And it was awesome, but then we started to notice things we didnt like, leveled enemies, short campaign, capped skills, stuff like that...[the quotations continues into oblivion] |
My point is that ETW has literally 2 new things to present, Multiplayer and Naval Combat... Thats it. (Asides from AI scripting, and all other carrying problems, including masturbating graphics...) Its literally an upgrade to a concept.
While RTW brought whole 3D campaign map/battles, separate detail unit control...blabla, which was COMPARING to the rest we had, totally amazing and out of this world... You can hardly compare those 2, but, as I pointed out, we have yet to see...
Over-hyping won't do anyone good. Better concentrate on what type of protection will they use, and getting those CA wage slaves to pre-release or share...

You have upgrading and growing provinces, new villages popping up that you can specialize and attack/defend without going into sieges every turn, and a 3-branched research tree you never even had in any previous TW game..
Read up some more about the features, there are at least as many new features as RTW brought.
The 2d to 3d conversion RTW brought was nothig more than a gfx upgrade =P
And im friggin glad its an upgrade to a concept, thats what sequels should be. They are supposed to be upgrades of the previous game.. If you buy a Total War game, you should be getting a Total War game.
That is why Dawn of War 2 became an utter failure in the eyes of the fans, because they strayed too far from what the fans already knew and loved about the Dawn of War franchize.
People buy Total War to get Total War, not anything else.

Hmm, personally I always liked the 2D campaign map more. For me, M:TW is still the grand title of the series. Heck, even the battles of M:TW were more fun, despite the rather poor graphics even for its time.
Don't get me wrong though, new Total War games are still something I look forward to very much( though I dislike the guns era in this one ).

Agree with Raap, M:TW still is the best title imo, but I am curious to see how E:TW will turn out, maybe the new campaign map will be better than the previous 2 titles.

Lol @ that.
There's so much new stuff in empires it's unreal.
What about the water in sea battles?
That took over a year to make.
Totally new game engine.
Totally revamped diplomacy engine.
So much more too.
I think It's due all the plaudits it's getting, where they go next now with the series is the biggie?
