if you read the interview, you'd know that they are deliberatley keeping costs and technology low as to prevent any severe finical headaches. nobody at id knows if this model works yet.

I really hope that it does work. But this is not yet their vision of almost instant play through the browser. Perhaps they can make it on-demand, as in, everyone who needs a certain map when loading will download it. This way it will be less loading, and perhaps less sever load.

A question, is the BF Heroes game supposed to be also based on this model (go to site, install something small, let it update, play)?

We're sorry, but it appears you are having problems connecting to the QUAKE LIVE network. If you are behind a firewall you must make sure that it permits the following connection:

Protocol: TCP
Host: xmpp.quakelive.com
Port: 5222

the important part is that id now has a 3d game engine in your web browser. they're considering licensing it off if everything goes well. imagine how awesome that would be. if it can do 2d equally well, flash would be out of the game for, err, gaming on the web.

maybe im just not imaginative enough then, because i still dont see the appeal... what good is the ability to play a game in a browser? like i said, it'd make sense if it was something LIKE flash - a very brief preloading required before youre away gaming, but with this your still required to actually download the entire game before you play... its ALMOST the same model as steam: make account, log in, download the game to hdd, play game through third party system which allows for finding servers to play on.

as a technical achievement; as an experiment, its great sure, but i guess what i was hoping for, would be a "play anywhere, play any time' type model, where you didnt need to download the entire game just to play it on a website

I think last room bot is equivalent to hardcore difficulty bot in Q3A.

Is that good or bad? Don't remember much from the Q3A days... Not that I've played it much, back then I preferred games like Rainbow Six.

Yeah instagib is the only mode I play. Regular dm/tdm with oldschool weapons picking up is boring and imbalanced (you spawn next to red armor and rocket launcher = win! you spawn in the middle of nowhere and someone with a rocket launcher chasing you = dead). Instagib is always balanced.
