Just ordered from amazon.co.uk...costs 37 £ incl. shipping and VAT to germany. Thats about 42 euros. Can't complain about the price. Some sellers are offering this version for 69 euros lol. At least finally something great for the PS3 next to little big planet and im able to play online for free...so its cool!

You'll probably avoid the masses of people connecting on day one though, so swings and roundabouts. Don't know if any of you have seen the Killzone 2 website, but you can login and start browsing the online stat-tracking features and such (clearly taking inspiration from Halo). Looks good.

It's international delivery though, so I probably won't have it until monday or tuesday next week.
too bad
I could have bought it in a store somewhere here in austria instead, but the game is 60-70€ here and in germany, whereas in the UK you can get it for 30GBP, which is about 33€.
So with shipping it costs me about 38€ from the UK.
Couldn't resist saving so much money.. just too much of a difference just to get the game 3 days or so earlier. |
I bought it to from shop.net and i can tell it takes only 2 days. You payed 3.50 which means that it will be sent first class. Every time i ordered something from shop.net it took only 2 days. Even the PlayStation 3.

I got my (shiny 'limited edition' shopto.net) copy this morning and have been playing it off and on. My initial reaction was somewhat subdued actually and in multiplayer I struggled to get to grips with the controls. At the end of the day though I'm very happy with the game, and multiplayer is indeed awesome. I'm sinking most of my time there but it did have something of a learning curve as it takes a while to get in synch with the pace of the game and the controls, once it clicks though you're good to go.
Still, what I don't understand about multiplayer is why the excellent cover mechanics aren't implemented? It's a big oversight if you ask me, and detracts from the experience as these maps are begging for the cover mechanic to be used but for some reason I can only crouch! It's a bit insane and I've worked around it, as everyone has, and gotten used to it not being there - but every time I play singleplayer I'm quickly reminded of how useful it is and the cycle goes full circle with me wishing it was there in multi. It's a damn shame!
Singleplayer on the otherhand is unfortunately rather generic. I'm on the second mission so far and apart from the odd moment here and there it's all a bit too familiar and by the numbers. That's not to say it isn't enjoyable in its own right, because it is - particularly with the difficulty cranked up against the intelligent AI - just don't expect anything mind blowing in terms of gameplay mechanics. You've seen this linear progression style game before, and Killzone 2 doesn't really do much (if at all) new with it. I mean it looks gorgeous, and sounds amazing and the combat is a lot of fun... but that's about it so far.
Singleplayer skirmish mode (basically bots in multiplayer) is also a nice addition and they are very capable so I can see it serving its function well, but I'm not sure who it was made for as most people have internet connections these days. Still a good feature to have mind.

There was some server errors when the game initially launched but they've gone now. Lag is non-existent, and it's all very smooth, there are no stutters or warping. I'm sure it's possible on occasion, as they can't simply eliminate lag, but I've not noticed it even once. The only problem I've had is the quality of voice communications, but I'm not sure whether that's a problem on their end or mine as some people come out nice and clear whilst others are truly awful (and mute worthy).
Multiplayer is called Warzone. Depending on server options it will rotate maps, and the game types within (such as assassination, search and destroy, capture and defend... etc) this all happens on the fly whilst you're in the map so there's no loading between game modes. At the end of the timelimit it will tot up your score and show you an experience meter a la Call of Duty 4. As you progress up this experience ladder you unlock different options and gear.
During the game you can either rambo it or join a 'squad'. This squad has dedicated voice comms, and also allows you to discern between one another easily on the map, potentially fostering teamwork.
I'm guessing clan warfare will be the focal point for a lot of people, but I'm not familiar with how it works except to say that you can compete in a ladder system or player run tournaments where you bet your clans 'honour' against another team for keeps. It seems interesting anyway.

The game was 39,- euro at play.com and they just increased the price to 45,50 euro now, reason for me not to buy it from play.

That's cheap. Here the standard price for most console games is around €62.
And we have an import limit of €22 (postal system closely inspect most packages from play.com and other retailers who sell dvds, music, etc).
If the postal system detect the package and it's over the limit, they add 25% tax and about an €8 fee - so basically we're usually screwed either way

Yes, because Norway is not a member of the EU, but we still have to succumb to some laws from there

Nice, you were right! I just got word that it arrived at my local post office a minute ago.
Excellent!
2 days from the UK to Austria is extremely fast...
Was expecting more like 3-5 days even with priority mail.
Sucks that I gotta go to work now. Can't wait to play it!
See you guys online :-)
