Because it's shit, a lot of ISP's these days don't like p2p so will throttle it and since steam stops all downloads when you launch a game, people will end up leeching then start the game when it's finished so it wont upload to anyone else. Anyway, steam is fine for me 90% of the time, it's only slow because a big demo has just gone up.

Latest Steam client will allow you to select a region from which to download so it's usually possible to get good speeds unless the network itself is very busy.
(As mentioned there's been a few big releases these last days.)

Played the demo for about 45 min. It's awesome. It really looks very nice on ultra settings besides the trees. The trees are awful at best. They're made of 4-6 layouts intersected, with low res textures.
The DoF is a bit strange in this game and the SSAO drops the FPS significantly. Besides that it's very well optimised.
Oh, the loading time is sometimes overlong.

Well, i downloaded via steam at 1.6 MBS per second. Already finished the 2 tutorials on it.
Awesome game.
Lives up to everything I was expecting. none of the screen shots/youtube/trailers do the game justice when its playing on my system. Everything maxed at 1920 x 1200 and smooth as silk. looks incredible.
My jaw about hi the floor at the beginning of the naval battle tutorial.

Sucks to be the ones that can't get a decent speed or are unable to get to load it. Back to finish off the final available part of the demo.
It's going to be a great game and now I will be hit by the "can't wait till its freaking released" bug.

Razz

My only concern at the mo is that my ATI 4870x2 starts to overheat (the fan revs up to 100%), don't crash or nothing just annoying to hear the whizz of the fan every 40 sec or so. To anyone that have a 4870x2, what is your fan speed when playing this game?.

I tried installing new gfx drivers etc. and still same prob so started downloading the demo through trash steam again.

And I just noticed I can't change region and here's a pic, anyone know what the problem is? It's not because of my steam skin since it's the same thing whether I chose Swedish/English and original skin etc.

Oh if anyone is wondering whats in the tutorial:
You get 2 tutorials (naval and battlefield)
and you get 2 battle scenarios to play (Sea battle and land battle)

Dunno if this was out there already (though it probly is).

The land battle features the Brits against the Americans in Battle of Wine Creek. Dont remember who the naval battle is.

When you launch it for the first time it installs new Windows Installer and Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable.
Maybe this is one reason for the hang up.

btw demo is good.. not the biggest fan of the naval side of the game.. but can tell it will grow on me.

The game is just what i expected so its awesome.. cant wait to see it with the full campaign map etc.. thats when these games shine.

few things thou

- Loading times seem HUGEEEEEEEE ...
- Few bugs... eg horses animations fucking up etc.

Game runs at a very good fps on my rig with everything on very high (dual core oc'ed to 3.2ghz and a 4850 Overclocked.

Can only imagine what this would be like on ultra with a i7 etc

awesome game.. cant wait to play the full thing.

Gotta say this was a ton of fun. I'm a big history buff especially when it comes to military history but the 1700 and 1800's are really a big gap for me when it comes to general interest. But this game could really swing that around Very Happy

Great fun, cant wait for the full release.

Ive got a 4870 X2 and my fanspeed seemed normal, although I cant tell for certain, only had the card for about a week now. But no max-revving from what I could hear.

Yeah I noticed the same, loadtime was about a minute or so with my rig.

I played with all on ultra, 8aa, 16af and noticed no lag what so ever. Bound to change in big battles though I guess Smile
