All games should be like the ending in Contra. An entire Island explodes and it shows two dudes with awesome pecks. Thats the only ending that is needed.
Just finished it and I really liked it. Very minor spoilers ahead, nothing major.
Great atmosphere, but really not as scary as the first game, I only had one jumpy moment and it wasnt Alma jumping at you. I was just crossing some obstruction in the school level and with the corner of my eye i noticed those ghosties standing there, totally caught me off guard. Though i was creeped out throughout most of the game. Everytime i had to use a ladder I was just waiting for that moment from the first game, where Alma is on top looking at you, and once you get down something jumps at you, but alas i didnt find it (maybe i missed it since i jumped quite a few ladders). I thought there were a few great places where a scare couldve been used, but maybe it was too predictable for them so they didnt use it. Overall not as scary as the first. When i played the first i didnt use headphones cause it was TOO creepy, in this one i played in the dark with headphones on.
Contrary to some reviews I found the first levels to be the best. Everything up to and including the school was great. Really creepy atmosphere and I just loved those jumpy monsters, so fun to shoot them out of the air with a shotty in slow mo. But everything after the school was kind of not interesting for me. Especially subway, that moving platform level, and the underground facility, just generic and boring without any interesting or new enemies, except those invisible ninjas from the first game.
Most of the weapons were awesome. I dont know why snakefist gives you that super awesome gun with like 10 shots. I was expecting some big ass boss fight and saved it till the end only to realize it was useless. I used it once at the very end when Alma is doing you-know-what to you.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
Can anyone please.. PLEASE tell me why I cant play this game? I have Windows XP Pro and a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard which this game doesn't seem to fancy at all, seeing as the game crashes when it attempts to even run the intro.
Please guys.. the game works when in safemode as well as totally turning off sound acceleration.
I'm not totally sure about it but isn't the ExtremeMusic of the x-fi brands a very low-end card, it might be that the game detects it as a x-fi and tries to enable features that your card can't handle though it seems rather unlikely. (Might have been the ExtremeAudio card though.)
Sound issues seems to be a known problem though so it might be fully fixed in the next patch, until then (Assuming it's fixed.) I'd recommend fully updating DirectX (For the audio related files but I don't remember if Fear 2 used that system.) plus the latest audio drivers for your card from Creative.
It could also be some codec issue as some people said that copying a file into the system32 dir in the windows folder helped, posted earlier in this thread but I don't remember the details.
(Obviously I don't recommend you to randomly install codecs, either use a good pack and make sure to configure things correctly or only the ones you really need.)
Can someone give me an outline of what I need to do with the DIE release to get it working with 1.01 and the loader (for multi)? Or should I just give up and grab the TL release?

Nooooooo, don't compare boundle to Supermax! Supermax comes here twice a year, bullfucks the forum and basically is harmless, where as boundle is a persistent troll.
This is a known problem for ALL users of multiple graphics cards as it's mostly down to driver design on how best make each GPU communicate with one another in a specific game.
Thus new drivers with updated profiles for specific titles are always required, NVIDIA clearly leads here with their "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" program whereas from how I understand it ATI has to acquire the games once their available and begin development of new drivers.
Theoretically in the worst case it can take up to two months for ATI due to their monthly release schedule compared to NVIDIA's beta "storming" (182.05 last week and 182.06 today as a example.) of updates for their drivers, unfortunately sometimes it might take even longer for certain issues to be worked out depending on game popularity (Or something like that.) and engine. (Some game engines won't scale well to multiple GPU's or are limited by other factors like for example GTA IV being mainly CPU limiting or Fallout 3 having flashing HDR sky even in recent drivers, though it happens with NV as well.)
What you're doing is a unsupported "hack" but it's not a bad thing as you force the drivers or ATI CCC to recognize the game as something else, normally though I'd recommend using game names for engines and similar titles such as FEAR instead of FEAR2 and so on to minimize potential errors and issues.
(The Oblivion.exe profile for example has a inbuilt hack for AA+HDR and while it scales very well in CFire it can give visual artifacts.)
ATI also has internal test names to alter scaling such as AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe for AFR Crossfire scaling (Alternate Frame Rendering.) this is further enhanced by setting Catalyst AI to advanced. (Improved optimizations and game specific tweaks plus attemps to force AFR scaling in Crossfire.) and there's also SAM2.exe but both have side issues like visual glitches due to being mainly tests though it might be worth it if performance improves enough.
Still I haven't noticed much stuttering (Aside from when the game autosaves but that's a known issue.) and performance remained high enough (Around 50 to 60) trough the entire game (Finally beat it and took all SP unlock rewards.) even with Crossfire scaling being rather low. (AA at 4x in the game with Edge Detect via CCC plus Adaptive AA and forced 16x AF with Catalyst AI set to standard.)
Bit technical and I've explained this a few times already but it's worth knowing before you decide to go SLI/Crossfire.
(Both ATI and NVIDIA has problems but it'll improve with better drivers, especially for "unique" solutions like GX2 cards and X2 cards compared to traditional multi-card SLI/CF setups.)
As for the game and as mentioned I also was a bit confused how everything turned out, will be interesting to see the continuation whether it's a expansion or full sequel.
(Getting all intel did improve general background knowledge but it's not required for the story as much is explained as you play, like the purpose of the school and the various projects like Origin.)
Oh and the replica soldiers are friggin fugly under their helmets.
(And the laser gun owns, plasma is nice as well but there's like fifteen shots worth of ammo all in all.)

Some mp pics. I dont recall the exact modes´names, but it has dm, tdm, domination, cod5 war, ctf (except there are vials, two of them) and some other mode, but there are no servers lol.
Health regenerates, and u get armor and ammor from some ammo boxes spread throughout the map . There are also weapons such as the rocket launcher, and the plasma rifle (the halo skin-like bfg) u can pick up from the floor.
The loadout can be customized by distributing points among weapons, grenades and, armor and a medkit. I didn´t play fear mp, so i dont know if there is any difference, if so, please point it out since i have to write a review lol.
Anyway...It´s quite fun. Give it a try (i sound like an ad lol).

Yup, multiplayer in FEAR2 is good. Good netcode, good effects, good feel. It's sad that FEAR2 doesn't have big community just because it's not a modern times game with AK47 and M16 set in imaginary middle east country.
FEAR had a pretty good MP community but it was and still is loaded with cheaters...Maybe they'll release "FEAR Combat 2" once the game has been out for a while
fun game but i can't say it's the best fps i played, i like the graphic and combat was cool, but i have seen all this fitures in the past so as i said, fun game but not a special one or the best ever.
