Well, that makes me more optimistic about keeping my preorder.
I would anyway. Hell, it's Warhammer 40k.

DoW 2 might not be the best game around, but i can at least admit that i am enjoying it. Yes finishing missions on the same map over and over again might get boring after awhile but leveling your squads and getting equipment is a lot of fun. Some of you might not like the new system, in terms of Warhammer table top rules; this is one step closer to the actual thing.
I will at least give it a 8/10 in my book.
Give it a go, if you don't like it then who cares?

How exactly do you start the rForce release? I've tried copying some steam files into my DoW2 folder. Just gave me another error.
Nevermind, got it running.

well, i am only at day 6 now but i really like the fact that you have several days to respond to distress signals across the sector map (and i have only 2 planets). if you don't do that mission then you lose some gear and XP.
i play it on hard level (hardest level, don't remember the name) and i must say that if you do not have the proper gear and tactics, you will simply struggle to accomplish that mission. i've seen it first hand when the Tyranids invaded ...... i simply haven't played with the Devastator Bolter Squad and had no fast firing weapons! lost 3/4 squads 5min after entering the mission .
i must say it's a pretty good game considering most games released recently were nothing else but crap!
btw, has anyone tried MP? does the game have skirmish ?

Well, im also going by what others are saying in this thread among other places.
Sounds to me like it won't be a total loss.

Fucking loving the campaign so far, and that's without having tried co-op yet. When do you start finding shotguns, flamers, plasma weapons and so on?
It does have skirmish, host a multiplayer custom game, put all AIs or close slots, then start it.

Is it a solid campaign or just a slap on for this mutliplayer focused game?

I'm not far in it but it should be more focused than DoW 1 due to only having a few races and only one playable for the campaign and it mixes some parts from the "tabletop" campaigns in the expansions but again with a better focus on story. (If such a thing can be used in the Warhammer universe where it's all versus all divided in a multitude of extreme factions.)
EDIT: Wonder what they're planning for this game though, there's more factions to use (Tau, Chaos, Imperial Guard and Dark Eldar from the older titles.) plus a ton of units and such. (Maps are also a bit limited at the moment.)

Campaign is nothing but a skirmish vs AI. Story is completely irrelevant since the mission objectives are always the same: Kill the big bug/ork Hell I wouldn't even call it a skirmish since the computer does not attack you unless you come into its aggro zone.

I always get a crash on the "Close The Angels gate" mission, after taking the three generators..Some kind of exception/access violation. That's strange, 'cause i know that some guys advanced further than day 22 and this mission =_= From now on i'll wait for a proper release or till the game ships at stores here (in Russia that'll happen only on 26th of Feb.)
Otherwise the game works flawlessly, but is really repeatitive. Too repeatetive.
No, we have no bears on the streets here in Russia.

aren't all RTS games nothing else than skirmish vs AI? . every game is different in it's way. i think you have never lost a battle or did not do it in time; i've done that (stupid demo charges placed near generators; tinny mistake from me ). if you haven't noticed, if you do not make a mission in time (ex defend against orks), that mission is then taken by something else (attack orks; Tyranoids were in my case). regarding the last part of your post the computer does not attack you unless you come into its aggro zone. ... well, i haven't seen any perfect game yet . but you must admit it's a very good thing that every swarm of enemy Tyra are being controlled by a minor boss ... kill him and the swarm starts fighting between them!
anyway, i still like it. could be better but it's good enough. i kinda hate fighting Tyra bosses ....they always knock unconscious 3/4 of my squads; i always take the time to kill everything else from the map! how do you guys kill them?

I don't know about the campaign but I did a test skirmish against a easy AI opponent on a 2vs2 map and he was near impossible to kill with me as a Space Marine and the AI as a Tyranoid.
Finally won with sheer force by waiting and spamming out five or so T3 tanks which killed most units aside from those big super units and that "spit" unit which usually took down my tanks in a few hits but it allowed me to rack up enough "points" to kill the HQ with continual orbital bombardment.
Only killed the "commander" Tyranoid out of sheer luck as well since it seemed to heal when it was near it's HQ area. (You'd think a lvl 10 Force Commander in Terminator gear with a heavy rifle and five assault tanks would kill it but no it doesn't work at all due to the above issues.)
Will probably figure out a better way to kill them eventually, skirmish was more of a test but the Tyranoids seems pretty challenging and the AI difficulty was on easy.
(Mostly passive as well, took a few control points and occasionally attacked my own captured areas but never initiated a attack.)

JBeckman, we must be playing different games. I overrun easy AI with one dreadnought and my force commander.

The first thing I did in Skirmish was to use the basic units I had to capture points and upgrade them so I went directly to T3 after two HQ upgrades and a bit of combat against lower units with my commander and a basic marine "heavy weapons" squad as support.
At the time I focused on attack the enemy AI had a swarm of smaller units plus several bigger "tank" units so it took several tries before I could weaken him enough to get close enough to his HQ in order to nuke it until it exploded.
Force Commander proved useless once the enemy units got closer as he was always knocked around and killed within seconds, tanks worked much better aside from that spit-splash attack from one specific Tyranoid unit as it's regarded as hitting the rear armor and doing much more damage.
Also I expect this will change via balancing eventually (Can't say how it'll change or what will change.) as the code is from the gold-master in January compared to various updates during the February update that'll be introduced to the main game via patching.
(Like the day-1 patch on release day.)

what???? i have the same problem like Jbeckman. i was unable to defeat the Tyra that easy .... on easy difficulty! the skirmish is also very interesting .... gearing up and so on ... nice! and eventually, they fixed one stupid little thing in DoW .... no more squad units training on the battlefield. you need that relay (or whatever it is). at least not as easy as it was in DoW1.
wonder when will they release new maps for skirmish .... there are only 6 maps(+/-1) for skirmish
