Well, yes, but still, if Ultimate runs fast, why not just have that? And these Home Basic and Starter don't have AERO, while netbooks can run it at reasonable performance with Intel GMA... Smile

They shouldn't even use the Windows 7 moniker for Starter edition, they should have named it "Windows Netbook 2009" or something. As far as I'm concerned it's a separate product even though it shares the kernel.

When is the final of Windows 7 due to be released? Cause Vista's only been out for 2 years or so right?

Only 2 years? Looking back I'd say it's about time: Win 95, Win 98, Win 2000, Win XP (2002). The five year gap between XP and Vista was not intended, it just took more time to build a completely new OS and now they will update it every 2-3 years until they do the next new OS (maybe ~2015).

it's supposed to be lighter than xp, so not really
if you mean reinstall - you should reinstall atleast once a year anyway

Windows 7 isn't going to be lighter than Windows XP. It definitely will be lighter than vista but no way closer to XP.

On my 1GB laptop, the beta boots and works faster than XP. Same has been reported by many netbook users.
