OK, so I'm reading these bad news that DIE release is actually *dead* at some point and goes back to main screen. Is it true? Has anyone finished the game already? I'm really fed up with downloading the crap for the 100th time (3/4 of the links died so far, so it's really a *die* release)...

Great game! Better than FEAR 1.

Excellent job the devs did.

Great game. Normally I hate games that show signs of being released multi-platform (consoles) or ported. In this game however all the menus are fast, its easy to customize and the gameplay is lightning-quick and responsive.

Need a little help. I can't run the game b/c of my monitor's resolution issue. Had similiar probs in the past and ended having to run game in window mode, change options/resolutions..and then all was fine.

Problem with FEAR is that it won't run in windows mode. I tried running the short cut and then hitting alt+enter....but nothing happened. My screen stays black with "unsupported mode" messages. I need to change the ingame settings to 1360x728 (or something like that).

Is there any way to run this game in a window or change the resolution settings without going into the game?

THanks

Nit

Have no problem running it at 1360x768 (If thats the resolution you mean).

Config for FEAR 2 is stored in C:\users\UserName\Documents\WBGames\FEAR2\settings.cfg.

"RestartRenderBetweenMaps" "0.000000"
"VSyncOnFlip" "1.000000"
"ScreenHeight" "768.000000"
"BitDepth" "32.000000"
"DeviceName" "\\.\DISPLAY1"
"ScreenWidth" "1360.000000"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"Gamma" "1.200000"

Although it may be a refresh rate problem whilst at that resolution.

I tried changing the resolution via the config file....no good. I don't know what else to do. I can't figure out why alt+enter is not working. It should just run in a window...then I would be able to change the in game settings.

What do you mean about a refresh rate issue? How would I fix that? I was able to run Mirrors Edge, Dead Space, Persia, Silent Hill...you name it. This game just won't work.

Any other ideas?

Levels? This isn't Super Mario Bros.. There are 7 intervals, but they're not something I'd call "levels".

It was a retarded decision. A 16:10 resolution on a 16:10 monitor shouldn't have any black bar. It's just not logical.

Like before, let me open your eyes: It is an artistic decision. Do you make the same argument when you watch a 2.35:1 films and cry about the "black bars" (it's called letterboxing)?

Actually, yes. Its fucking stupid that even widescreen state of the art HDTV's STILL have black bars, due to the movies being released on dvd/bluray in cinema-format (which is wider than widescreen).

There is no technical reason, its just a design decition, and a retarded one at that. It doesnt make movies or games feel more cinematic, it just removes pixels that could be better used giving us MORE immersion.

Just because its an artistic/design decition doesnt make it a good artistic idea.. Rolling Eyes

Movies are not meant for TV's, thus some of them have black bars even on 16:9 TVs.

You sir should stop watching movies. Seriously.

Maybe we should have stayed with 4:3? Why did we even move to wide screens in the first place, going by your logic? Rolling Eyes Because people like you that Francis Ford Coppola butchered his film. To satisfy your idiotic notion that "black bars" are a waste of your precious HDTVs, with complete disregard to the artistic vision. Small newsflash: Cinema's AR is usually 1.85:1, so when a film is shot on 2.35:1, there are "black bars" in cinema as well. Rolling Eyes

Education:
http://www.widescreen.org/widescreen_matte.shtml

For people like you however, there is always the "zoom" options in your precious HDTVs, that will cut the picture, just like you want, so no space is wasted.

The circa-1.33:1 format has been the oldest one actually, then other ones popped up.

It's NOT about artistic expression when it comes to cross-platform games where the porting is done so lazy that aspect ratios on the PC platform can't be changed. It's pure laziness and any attempts to call it "artistic expression" is just nonsense in my personal opinion. Movies filmed on 2.35:1 format cannot and should not be compared to a shooter on the PC where resolutions and aspect ratios is just a matter of configuration (or should be if the developers bothered to do it properly).

Updates files from the "1.01 patch" or what to call it.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4i6v9j

There's one new archive file and if you check the details via right clicking and selecting properties the version number should differ a bit. Smile

Obviously this requires using the loader as the EXE isn't cracked or altered in any way.

No idea what's been corrected, patched or otherwise altered.
