Holy shit - this game is horrid. How can they release crap like this in this day and age?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Actually, after spending more time with it, I can safely say it is anything but horrid. There is a really cool part when you have to go to a mansion through the Jungle and it is very well done.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I am actually playing this over FEAR 2 right now ( and I love FEAR 2).
I think the problem with this game is that the begining was very badly done and it just doesnt suck you in they way it was intended to. As the game progresses it genuinely gets a lot better.
I was having trouble believing Rebellion could release something as bad as all the console people were saying it was, thats why they are console players I guess.
GOTY? not a chance but its still very entertaining and the sound design is really spot on - something that is so badly done in other games -cough- COD World at War -cough-.
Completed it a while ago, later levels are a bit annoying as these "infected" zombie-like people appear in droves though a well placed shot to the head usually kills them.
Game also has a few boss characters but it's mostly a big dude with two knives that take ages to kill although melee attacks are very effective.
Later levels look pretty good and there's a rain level towards the end where there's a form of shiny/glossy effect on most surfaces.
Also had multiple endings but it comes down to a single choice during the end of the last level and only affects what's told during the epilogue.
Decent FPS shooter with certain horror elements mixed in but it could have been a bit better.
(Animations for example, especially during cinematic events though the engine itself is pretty good.)
just played the first 2 levels...and i can't imagine how such a game still gets a green light for release nowadays. yes, at the core it's a decent game (don't mind the gfx), but the shooter mechanics are just plain fubar and ancient, worse than the pre-halflife1-era (weak sound effects, enemies have godlike aim, shitty AI, no real sense of recoil or overall weapon feeling). that's the first game in years that goes down the toilet not because of gfx, story or overall polish - it's just not fun to shoot someone in this game!
pretty plese jbeckman, spoil the story - cuz that's the only element in this game that seemed halfway interesting.

Weak sound? LOL. I guess you are a big COD-W@W fan.
The gun physics and sound are VERY good compared to the rest of the crap out there. The recoil is also very well done (hip firing the M60 causes it to go all over the place). Its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but its not as bad as everyone is saying it is.
I wish they would make a Vietcong 3 with this engine.

PS : Play just a little more - It gets very good at the Mansion.
Oh I agree that the game could have been done better but it's still playable despite some minor annoyances.
Controls for example have been made very slow and clumsy which might be a design decision as the game isn't that fast paced but it does hinder quick movements when for example aiming or even trying to turn as some enemies end up behind you.
Visuals are pretty good overall but the animations are a bit stiff, especially those scripted movie sequences though it still works OK.
Story isn't all that great, biological virus gets lost and someone needs to retrieve it but there's various complications and other people are also looking for it, not told all that well either but can be understood at least.
There's a nice variety of weapons and equipments but balance is a bit wonky as a AK should be better than the M16 (Damage wise mainly.) whereas rifles usually kills in two-three hits (I prefer the Springfield as it's semi-auto so still pretty quick firing compared to the bolt action Vietnamese rifle.)
(Pistols are pretty useless though not as bad as melee weapons due to the amount of hits enemies take before dying but the revolver is OK.)
Damage scale is also a bit off as enemies can take a high amount of damage even from a shotgun at close range other than hits to the head area which kills in two or three hits, understandable for those infected zombie like enemies but a VC soldier shouldn't be able to take that much damage. (Gore model is pretty cool though, limbs usually gets shot of with a bit of accurate aiming.)
I found sound and general atmosphere pretty good though I was never really scared due to how many enemies you normally face though the first time I encountered that knife wielding big guy things got a bit hectic. (That guy can take several clips of ammunition point blank to the head before dying and ammo is pretty limited.)
AI could also be better but it works due to their numbers.
(They do take cover and such but it's not very effective and those zombie types usually just rush head on.)
So all in all it's a decent shooter/horror game but still a bit from other Action/Horror mixtures such as Resident Evil (Not totally the same thing though.) or other Vietnam war titles like Vietcong.
Still better than some other games that have been released though.
(Mortyr/Operation Thunderstorm for example.)
Played too ~2h ... decent,6/10 for me.Nothing to play anyway,so ill give it a go.There are some cool stuff..like gore and those finishing moves.Better than first thats for sure.
This game is utterly appalling. I played it for a good hour, and while it's brutal and 'adult' the game itself is well below par. I agree with the guy up there who says "How can they release games like this in this day and age?" You should read the Eurogamer review if you want to know more.

With no multiplayer, and only ten levels, the game isn't even very long, but I still couldn't bring myself to finish it. It's no surprise that Eidos has been very quiet about it in the run-up to its launch today: had it been released on PS2, Shellshock 2 would have struggled to live up to the original's 6/10 legacy. Up against World at War, Killzone 2 and Halo 3, it's a complete joke. The worst FPS I've played since Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.
