Finished the first two levels, and I like it so far. Does not feel like 'the next step' in the shooter genre but very solid and entertaining. My only complain is that it's easy (at least compared to FEAR1 on PC).

The next step in the shooter genre is Killzone 2 then Dark Void.
End transmission

and what makes killzone 2 so special that it is the next step?
Really don't get it, not cause I'm 360 fanboy cause I don't believe Gears 2 was so next gen eather... the next step will be with the PS4 our Xbox720

No advertising.

I have played and finished FEAR 1 and i decided to try the FEAR 2 demo but i didnt like it that much, but now that i have the full game it is pretty decent, the graphics are a bit outdated but the scary moments are nicely done, for example at the beginning with the music box it scared the living hell out of me cause i didnt expect something like that so soon.. lol.. and the story is nice as well as there are a lot of things happening and there is a lot of action so its a pretty good game.

Seems sort of like a 'tacked-on' story to F.E.A.R. 1 (which I really enjoyed), but saying that I'm having an alright time with it. I'm REALLY missing the:
- no lean-peak
- no martial arts moves (they were fairly useless, but they made the melee game more enjoyable)
- no weapon recoil

Just finished it on Hard (game was quite easy).
Story was pretty lame and the whole game seemed rushed. Not a bad game by any means, but not terrific.
Well worth playing if you're a fence-sitter.

BTW, did the console ports of FEAR (FEAR Files?) have leaning? I always thought they remove leaning from console games because of the lack of buttons on the remote.

An interesting face-off between the 360 version and PS3 (and the PC as well, but that's less important):
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/f-e-a-r-2-project-origin-triple-format-face-off-article?page=1
Quote: | The Xbox 360 game looks nicer, owing to its full-on 4x multisampling anti-aliasing - the best that the console is able to produce - up against the more usual lack of edge-smoothing on PS3 cross-platform titles. A more subtle difference is the inclusion of ambient occlusion on Xbox 360, seemingly absent on PS3. Consult all-powerful Internet oracle Wikipedia if you want, but the bottom line is that AO helps deliver more depth and realism to any given scene, although its impact on the look of F.E.A.R. 2 is fairly limited when comparing one version to the other.
On a more incidental note, the presence of what seems to be macro-blocking indicates that PS3 is using movie-playback for some of its cut-scenes - for example, the nuclear blast at the beginning of the game. They're either being generated by the engine on PC and 360, or else the movies are being encoded to a much higher standard on those platforms, which seems unlikely.
[...]
What you're seeing here is that while the 360 code is fairly static (across the whole clip, the average is above 29fps), the PS3 version drops down very frequently to 20fps. By the very nature of how v-lock works, typically a non-consistent frame-rate is quickly shifting between 20fps and 30fps, resulting in a jerky update (see: BioShock PS3). But what this graph is showing is that in many cases, the refresh rate drops down to 20fps and can stay there for quite some time, before recovering.
In short, the gameplay is compromised quite severely because the more intense the action, the more likely it is that you'll get less feedback from the controls. In the midst of a hardcore shooting match, the last thing you need is a numbed response to your commands. PS3's graphical shortcomings don't have much impact on the fun you'll get playing the game, but this kind of poor performance definitely will. |
So, if anyone has doubts with which version to go, I guess this is the answer.

I guess this is one of these rare games where it got optimized properly for PC and then we can really see what PCs can do when devs aren't smoking cock.
