Well look, I still like the RPG's for my snes and enjoy them even though the graphics aren't exactly modern because they have cartoon graphics, and are smooth and detailed.
I just couldn't get past the jaggies and controls for GTA:SA. I enjoyed GTA:Vice City for the pc more. I remember the graphics for the original GTA3 on PS2 being much better then SA. But maybe my memory was based on what I considered good at that point in time.

The only reason why I would upgrade my comp would be to play the games at a good FPS, not for the eye candy. And as you can see I need to upgrade my comp soon.

the nice thing about PC games not having uber super updated newfangled graphics is that they will run on slower systems. I find it more important to have SMOOTH gameplay over stuttering, low fps, or having to turn off all the graphics options to get descent frames.
I may have a top of the line computer now, and not have to worry about it, but in 6 months my system will be bottom of the barrel. But I'm confident it will run GTA: SA
And yes gameplay is more important rhan visuals. Just look at the Gameboy Advance, SNES style graphics but the games are great.

Lol, i used to think as you do, till i got my first ownage card for the day the 9800 pro, that was a while back, now i have a 6800 GT, man did that open my eyes. I used to be happy if i had 30 FPS in games, i didn't care about graphics, untill the day came i had to upgrade and got my first taste of how games ought to be played.... in their full and max settings. These days i refuse to play anything under 1280x1024, Highest settings, when you pay so much money for a card you want some graphics. |

Well
1) you're a graphics whore
and
2) 35fps is still good and runs smooth
and
3) they're different games that came out at different times. Not the same at all. I'm talking about games today.

Conclusion:
If you want a one night stand: Pick a game with good looks but no depth (i'm not saying HL2)
If you want a game that can make you happy for months and months: Pick GTA: SA

well, i wont say that i dont care about the gfx, cuz i do, but i care a lot about gameplay too, like one guy said previously, i still play some snes games hehe,
BUT i really like neat gfx and details, but whe are talking about a gta game here man, there's so much to do in it that i would'nt mind get the exact same gfx as in ps2, all i need is 6xaa, 8xaf and im good hehe

you guys tripping out about bad graphics, san andreas isn't THAT bad.
it looks really good (even on ps2), specially cause of all the weather effects that are constantly used.
besides, it's so good, entertaining & fun to play you will most likely not even think about it. my only desire for the pc version would be some proper AA support, VC & GTA3 had some major buggage with AA enabled.
