Hi, I have an experience of 17 years playing computer games, and IMO, the most professional and better developed RTS games are:

Warcraft III
Dawn of War

lol if you have 17 years and don't think that Supreme Commander is the god of RTS than you must have been living under a rock

I love dawn of war but all it is, is he who has more units wins.

jees, by the sound of it, you no more than 18 years old, with 17 years of ex in gaming Laughing ..... warcraft 3? the most professional and better developed game? right .....
think this guy is a hardcore DOTA player .... otherwise it makes no sense
Dawn of War ... previous post says a lot about the game (but you can win with just a few units). anyway, this one rocks!

My vote goes for Company of Heroes. The rock, paper, scissor nature of the units and combos makes this one a classic.

- I am almost 32 years old.
- I am not a DOTA hardcore player.
- You can read clearly in my post the abbreviation: IMO

The downside from "IMO" comes when you try and mix it with "I've been doing xxx for xxx amount of xxx and therefore xxx is better than xxx" when used as a backup for the opinion. An opinion, by it's very nature, doesn't require proof or justification -- it's just that; an opinion.

Saying the above in order to backup an opinion shows that you believe your answer to be the correct one.

Ya see? Wink

Why not?, that make my opinion to looks more important.

Let me try an example in my poor english: In politics, when you go to vote, normally you vote based on the candidate's opinions, that opinions are "helped" by the years of experience that candidate has.

.... You've just explained it mate. "That makes my opinion look more important" -- more important than whose? Everyone else's? That's an incredibly self-conceited attitude, my friend.

I would hardly call the future of a community the same as putting forth an opinion on what game you think is better.

No you also vote based on your own opinion or impression about said candidate, noone can now everything about anyone just as well as everybody can't know/experience or share the same opinion based on the same public facts, theres always fragmentation in information public or not.
This goes for games aswell.
While some may think and this will also be established as fact that command and conquer was the first mainstream rts game, some will believe it to be warcraft 3 because thats what they experienced first, due to their younger age than the audience who first experienced command and conquer, dune2, total annihilation or whatever.
Everything factors in, age, opinion, past, experience. etc.

Another recommendation from me would be "Warzone 2100" That was a really snazzy RTS back in the day .. with the wicked feature of being able to build your own tanks and then control them independently. Great stuff.

it's also open source now, including music which is now free under creative commons license.

theres a new renderer in the pipeline that will make the game look even nicer and proper terrain deformation is being worked on as well.

I'll also recommend the Earth 2150 series which can be had for 9.99$ at impulsedriven.com
thats all 3 games in one package.
Shop smart shop S-ma... heh.

I forgot two very important (in my life) strategy games:

Rise of Nations
Age of Mythology

I liked that 2 games a LOT.

No you also vote based on your own opinion or impression about said candidate.
Your own opinion or impression about candidate OPINIONS. Remember he will think for you, and you are allowing that by voting for him. You will never vote by a candidate without opinions, and if two candidates have very good opinions, and one have 17 years of experience, and the other zero experience, that will be determinative for the final results.

Dude, for crying out loud. Give it up already. Your opinion is NOT more valid and does NOT carry more weight than anyone else's on here. Ok? It doesn't. It won't. At all. Ever.

I've been gaming since I was 5 years old, my first comp being the Atari 2600 and the Vectrex. That means TWENTY THREE years of gaming. Does that mean my opinions are more valid and more "correct" than yours?

Cool.

Ah! it's a competition of ego? didn't noted it! well, I started gaming before your born. Do that make me better than you? no way!!! Laughing (anyway, the OP will listen to me first, that for sure) Laughing // I will listen to you first now, with 23 years playing, it's plenty obvious you have experience, that's matters.

EDIT: So, I am 15 year old now? well, that will help with my baldness for sure!

You're a silly little man who I *firmly* believe isn't even HALF the age he claims to be. Good day to you, sir.

Earth 2150
Warcraft 3
Starcraft
Supreme Commander

I got a feeling I forgot something, but those are some of my favourites.

-edit:

Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 Smile

-edit2:

Total Annihilation, obviously!
Even better with the 1000+ user created units and god knows how many maps you can download..

-edit3:

Ground Control 1 & 2... excellent games. Great single player campaigns and multiplayer.
The spiritual predecessors to World in Conflict (World in Conflict is more action oriented than those 2 though)

-edit4:

Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2, both great strategy games, as previously mentioned.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident... this game is awesome. truly epic space battles!
It was originally supposed to be Imperium Galactica 3 (there was even a demo released under that name) but it later became Nexus instead. Very tactical, no base building or anything, and it just has this beatiful style to it. Best explosions ever too!

Hey, my first machine was an Atari 2600 as well. Very Happy

Then nothing, then a ZX Spectrum 48K+, then a C64, then an Amiga 500, then an Amiga 1200, then a PC in 1995..

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN. That fucking game was the biggest disappointment to ever happen to RTS gaming. It sucked fucking balls.

CoH is the absolute best the past 3-4 years has to offer, and the classics are AoE series, starcraft and soon to be starcraft 2 if you can wait a while for blizzards piss-in-the-wind guesswork of release date.
