They say it improves performance by 20%....
Yea right. Anyway what is vague. 20 percent overall? The real problem was the huge dips in the frame rate whenever there was lots of actions on screen.

PC Patch Going Live Today
The Saints Row 2 patch for PC, previously mentioned on Thursday, January 22nd, will be going live on Steam later today. You will need to reconnect to the Steam servers in order to download the patch. The full change list can be seen below.
• General performance increase around 20%.
o This will vary depending on both the computer specifications and game settings.
• Fixes
o 3rd Party controller scrolling issue has been fixed.
o Corrected various crashes reported across all versions.
o Corrected a crash in “Drive-By” Diversion for Danish version.
o Corrected a crash in “Streaking” Diversion for Spanish version.
• Removals
o Original frame cap of 32 FPS has been removed.
• Additions
o New variable frame cap has been implemented. This will smooth out spikes in overall framerate.
• Players may notice a small hitch when crossing into new chunks in the world. The amount of time for this has been reduced for recommended spec machines, but may still be noticeable, particularly while driving at high speeds.

Is this really worth bothering with game style wise after GTA IV ?
Enlighten me on why one should make an effort to play it alongside GTA

sr2 is easier, it won't frustrate you as much as gta4(after you get used to the driving), the missions are varied and there's fun to be had with it, if you're willing to ignore the story, the characters, the dialogue and the driving controls (which are all crap).
i've been very biased against it since seeing the first videos and reading the previews, which made me think it's a crap game made for chavs, but i've been pleasantly surprised by the gameplay, after i've managed to get in a lighter mood and i started taking it less seriously
actually the story is bearable, it starts getting a b-movie vibe after a while, and there was, ocassionaly, some dialogue that made me smile. it's not all bad and you won't get bored with it.

If you like GTA's new style, you'll probably find this one too arcady and technically inferior. If you think GTA4 is too 'real' and/or boring, you could like SR2.

The patch improves performance and gameplay quiet a bit, according to people who bought the game.
Quote: | GTX 260 with a Q6600 on Vista 64, 6GB of DDR2 RAM.
Game was always bouncing around from 30 down to 15fps before. Now I get 35-40fps when walking and 30-35 when driving. Sweet. |

This game is driving circles around GTA IV in terms of fun-value and gameplay. GTA IV went away from the crazy murdering sprees of it's predecessors.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Funny. The majority of comments I have read from users in other forums is that the patch improves performance by very little.

Actually you are right, it's 49.99 Euro, I must have mistook the price in some way.
Anyway the patch added/updated the EXE file (Steam protected by the way and launches Steam itself when attempted to emulate via modified .DLL files that are usually used for Steam rips without touching the EXE files directly.) the Shader_PC file (Removed a few lines related to shadows and altered one other line, unsure if shadows look better or worse or if it's even supposed to help framerate.) and a new Patch.vpp_pc file (28 MB probably contains all updated data alongside engine changes in the EXE and those shader tweaks.)

the patch is applyed automatically from steam. someone can go make only a rip for this patch but this don't help

True, someone would have to work with the EXE to remove the protection entirely before the update could work on the ripped version from for example Razor1911's release.

EXE should be unprotected. someone only can remove entirely steam but steam is not a protection for me just like the windows live. you use it just to download games and updates etc etc and both have functions to play
