Quake Live (formerly known as Quake Zero) is a first-person shooter video game project from id Software announced in 2007. Focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game, it succeeds its predecessor Quake III Arena as a "major league" FPS eSports competition game. The game has entered an invitation-based closed beta in 2008

The trailer claims to support 30 maps. During the QuakeCon 2008 keynote speech, John Carmack stated that Quake Live would have no mod support but will be continually updated and may include officially approved user-made maps. On the newly launched website (August 1, 2008), Quake Live is claimed to have over 25 maps and 4 different game modes. It is thought that the maps are currently based on originals from Quake III Arena, but have added extras.

Quake Live is currently in beta testing. The Quake Live website has an email signup for beta testers wishing to play. id responds to requests for further details on its release date with "When it's done". The beta version is currently Windows-only, but id is working with Apple to bring the game to the Mac platform as well

Quake Live will be released as a free version of Quake III: Gold (Quake III and its expansion pack, Team Arena) available only through a web browser. Live will be backed financially by in-game advertising from IGA Worldwide. Skill-based matchmaking will be powered by a "metagame engine" developed by GaimTheory

How high/low are the system requirements compared with the original Quake 3?
Did the gfx engine change a lot?

Apparently it was caused by firefox being windowed, once I maximized firefox window game started working in fullscreen just fine.

Great game, love the new Quake Live "skin" in all maps, but few bad things I noticed from very brief playing:
-They removed blood
-There should be optional high textures pack to download. I understand gamers are meant to play this game from any computer anywhere, but for home usage it should be an option to have high textures.

I still play quake 3 occasionally with a few friends on LAN so can't wait for this game to get released. Should be great for some quick action once in a while.

Quake Live Should put also those mods like OSP and Rocket Arena then it would rock and gets lots of Quake players there Very Happy Very Happy

polished..... you can play it on old systems (4 years old pcs)

I certainly hope so given that the game was made 10 years ago Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Still, as much as I prefered UT .. I am looking forward to this. I enjoyed the fast-paced gameplay of Q3, but hated the graphics and the audio (ESPECIALLY that god-awful sound when you hit someone.. dear god!)

I used to play Quake 2 online a long time ago, never bought Quake 3 so could only play single or try to find cracked servers, which I only did once
Always used to play UT, damn I loved that game

I'm still waiting for a proper remake or a sequel to Quake 1,
