total war.. in modern times...

Will be interesting to see whether Creative Assembly will finally do a World War era TW game after Empire... The level of awesome would be off the scale. Very Happy

The problem with modern warfare and videogames is engagement ranges. You need VERY large maps if you want it even remotely realistic. Where they amassed in large units 150 years ago they scatter and use a lot more of the field today. That means a LOT of zooming and frantic clicking on a huge battlefield.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but it does sound a bit too hectic for an old man like myself. When they can make decent AI that let's you give general directions to a squad this can be done. Localized CQB can be simulated within a certain degree of realism, but not total war or anything close to Total-War's scope.

Ok.. after playing a bit..

Few notes bout my game tastes.. my fav type of game is massive epic warfare/empire etc type games (HOI2.. Victoria.. EU3 etc)

After playing this game.. i have to say its ok.. far from bad... have had a few of those awesome moments like in total war.. where victory is all but sorted for the other side.. then u come up with some omfg awesome plan and you win with 1 unit left Very Happy

it feels nowhere near as polished or big budget as a total war game.. which is to be expected.

Graphics do the job.. nothing special.. campaign map is rather nice.. and its the ENTIRE world... which is great.

Combat is ok... still getting used to it.. maybe a bit fast for my taste.. but i think it can be slowed down in the options

Oh and another thing which i love about this game is the options.. THERE ARE SO MANY... pages and pages of them.. for everything. .gameplay.. graphics.. etc

Lots of people will hate this game... its far from perfect....but its far from bad..

Would be nice if you could start a bit earlier in the game.. so you could prepare for war... i was playing as italy... and ethiopia pretty much just gets eaten up straight away by britain.. since you dont have time to transport troops there..

In terms of stability.. i can replicate a crash everytime by clicking certain things in the formation options.. however not had a crash doing anything else . .and like i said i dont know if its a game.. crack.. or windows 7 prob.

Is it worth the 10gigs ?? sure

They are basically all mods of the same engine.

Anyone having any trouble getting it to start?

Every time I try to run it, it keeps crashing back to the desktop after the intro videos. Strange and annoying. 10 GB for a busted game. Damn it. Game looks pretty nice too, a change of pace from HOI anyway.

Anyone got any ideas?

Yup works here, but I am sort a split as to liking it or not. The concept is pretty cool, with the overview with the rotating Earth and all that, but I find the battles to be much to tin toy like sorta.
And it is somewhat what I expected, an advanced version of Axis & Allies.

If you can't get the launcher to launch, try restarting your PC after installing the game and applying the crackfix, that did it for me.

German and Polish versions were released a lot earlier than the English version (Sometime in 2008.) so it should be fully up to date even though it's listed as version 1.0

For those who don't know it Razor also released a crackfix for the game but I haven't played it myself yet so I don't know what it improves over the original crack.

I've used the crackfix - but I still got the same problem. Crashing just as combat is about to start.

No idea man. For me it just works. Could it be some stupid codec issue?, or maybe gracard driver?

I'd hate to have actually bought this game and be having this CTD on launch issue. They have no support section on their site, no support forums, nothing for customers experiencing technical difficutlies.

It doesn't seem to be crack related. Just poor Q&A testing per usual. All of the patches out there are for the euro version as well, so don't bother trying to patch it as this version is the latest.

Crap yea...forgot you have to rename the crack...look at the original .exe and delete the _ _ _ in the crackfix.exe. As I uninstalled the game and deleted it I don't have the exact name. But I guess you have done that as you get in to the game and the game only crashes when you start combat. Anyho, the change of the name should be mentioned anyway.

the crackfix works just fine. but the game sucks. heavily. i've played a bit and i mus say it's a bit boring. it has interesting things in it but it's nothing compared to RTW, MTW, M2TW and the up coming ETW. it wants to be something like this game but it's very very far away. and the system req are a bit high for nothing .... quite high.
and in the end, this is another good example why piracy is a good thing Very Happy.... i've only wasted time and not money. i would have bought it if it was a good game. too much graphics (in videos) and too little gameplay!

1.0 patch US?! Can someone please please PM me and link me to it, or give me a tip where to find it? All I found was the 1.1 and 1.2 patches which don't work with the game for some reason...probably German or something.

Oh and about the game...I think it's better than M2TW TBH. I hate medieval time themes but love WW2. I mean you can command freakin generals...how cool is that. You could chose whether to hole up Hitler in his bunker or you can give him an attack order on some Sherman tanks and see what happens Very Happy

The strat map is ugly but its fun.

And I haven't had a problem with it since the fix.

I think its a decent game. No TW war, but decent.

Are you referring to the patches at gamespot? http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/warleadersclashofnations/downloads.html?mode=official&tag=tabs;downloads

If so why don't they work? The patch notes are in english.

Where can I purchase this game? A week ago it was listed at amazon.com for purchase. Now everywhere I look it is backordered, or listed as a pre-order.
