imo its good, problem is few maps... but thats probably because they want to put new content for multiplayer after the first patch... so the pirated version only has few maps Smile
I've already preordered it and the current maps work for me.

Hopefully in the new maps you'll be able to find more cover for your squads and maybe even build it in a patch or so.
Besides what games dont take a bit of time to adapt, add to that, that this is the first of its "kind" so to speak... give them a few weeks to sort it out and it'll be very good!

Their track record has shown that they care what their consumers think, atleast imo.

*Edit* one more thing, try to play against other players, you'll see a REAL Diffrence... much more fun, if u only play agaisnt CPU that is Very Happy

There are some beta videos with comments from some guy at the forums:
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=212269

and he's pretty much negative as well... in his feedback- the graphics are the only nice thing it seems..

I really don't like the way that it all goes now.. Neutral

Maybe because i never played CoH the concept is kinda new to me but i found the 3vs3 matches to be pretty fun. If the imbas are fixed and more maps that make use of the cover system are provided the game will be well worth these 50 bucks for the multiplayer alone. The only thing that saddens me is the lack of modability - DOW1 has some excellent mods.

I'm a fanatical CoH player and I really liked DaW2 at first, but the more Ive been playing it I find there is something lacking that just don't make this game close to as compelling as CoH is.

I can't really put my finger on it but I don't find games fun in DaW2 like I do in CoH.

I just played another game of CoH this morning and instantly got into hwo fun that game is.

I just don't enjoy the games in DaW2, it's like there is something missing or something. Dunno

That being said, game is a lot of fun if you have friends and headsets Smile Dunno, everyone should grab the Beta and try it out. Might grow on you Smile

Seems that Relic is recycling the same thing since Dawn of war first came out. At least Company of Heroes evolved the RTS genre but after so many addons and repetitions of the same thing it isn't that fun anymore.

I still play COH with friends in LAN and while I respect Relic for creating a more dynamic play style, I expect a little more from the people that brought us exceptional and revolutionary titles like the Homeworld series.

Personally I don't think that the small squad based style of gameplay mixes well with the Warhammer universe(especially with horde type armies like the orks and tyranids) but maybe the COOP singleplayer campaign will make up for this.

Why don't they just delay the motherfucking game for a couple of weeks ?
And what's up with motherfucking LIVE Marketplace and microtransactions/premium content ?

Is that why they have included only 5 (!!!) maps, so they charge for the rest ? This is PC biatches, we ain' paying for some meager extras.

Release a full game and then release a full-blown expansion, like with the previous games !

It's not that. The game is being released as-is (Beta). Furthermore, looks like there will be very little content (only 7 maps, no 2v2 or 4v4), and any additional content will come in the form of DLC. Furthermore they removed all modding support and the mapmaker (both of which were available in CoH)

Bad just went to worst ->

Wouldn't be surprised if 2 weeks after the game is released we'll see console version announcement.

You mean to say, we'll see a "Piracy made our game sell poor, PC gaming is dying!" over gaming sites in one week after release, then the console version announcement two weeks after release Wink

Quote from a friend of mine on another forum. Most, if not all he says is true. Pay attention to how they make you run M$ Live and Steam overlays at the same time:

Quote:

Soooooooooooooooooooooo

I've been playing this beta for quite a while now, and I'm somewhat sckeptical about what we have here. First of all, there is no base building. Sure, that might be a nice thing, just call in units and have a go at it. But then, for each race there are like 7-9 units. Sure, each one is unique, but still... it's nothing compared to the variety of the original Dawn of War. There is no tech whatsoever, no units, just call ins.

Now, for the call in system you have two resources, just like in the original: energy and requisition. They're a streaming income, meaning you get the income over time by holding points, instead of harvesting resources in the classical RTS. However, income comes way too slowly, and many times you just sit there for 5 minutes waiting for income to rebuild your devastated army.

In Company of Heroes, retreating and suppression were a big deal. In DOW2, it feels like they took these game mechanics and fucked them up completely. Suppressed units no longer get a defense bonus, so they get instantly slowed and 2 seconds later insta-gibbed by the bolter or whatever is supressing. Furthermore, in DOW2 a lot of squads are only 3 persons. So, how do you know when to retreat then? I mean, is it after the first guy dies, or the second one? Cus if you let the squad fight on with 2 people, it's firepower is so low that it's not worth it to keep it around, and it might get killed off even faster than the 3 man squad. So now you're retreating units after only one casualty. Stupid.

Coming back the the low resource flow: since you get so little resources, most games you end up building only 7-10 units. No more epic battles from Company of Heroes and DOW 1, nonono, now everything is small scale and tactical. Quite frankly, it also feels more lame. Furthermore, with so little squads, a lot of the time you won't be able to cover the entire map. So, if you outmatch your opponent he can just withdraw and set up shop in another part of the map. And he can keep doing that over and over again, making the entire game one big frustrating tag game, but just a bunch of units running away from each other. It's REALLY stupid and really frustrating, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Hmm... what else... ah yes. Crappy units variety. There is like no more vehicles in the game. Most sides only get 2-3 vehicles now, and 4-5 infantry units. Lame and boring. Supposedly equipping your squads with various upgrades is supposed to make it more diverse, but it doesn't. It's just shallow, and wears out quickly.

Balance is completely clusterfucked too. Dreadnoughts instagib enemy units and are pretty much unstoppable behemoths. You get them at Tier 2, and they still eradicate your enemies Tier 3 antivehicle tanks. That's pretty fucked up if you ask me. There is also stuff that bothers me with the suppression mechanics, as well as Eldar spells that can instagib your entire army and just end a game then and there.

The map design is utter crap, especially when compared to Company of Heroes. Buildings no longer play a large role in strategy, and the maps are geometrical and unimaginative. They are either too small so you have no room to maneuver (3v3 maps) or are too big so you spend the entire game playing tag (1v1 maps).

Finally, the networking is crap, just like in Company of Heroes. Constant disconnects, or you can never connect with people. It takes 5 minutes to get an automatched game started, and it's not due to lack of players, but because they use some fucked up P2P protocol where everyone has to connect to everyone else, and that almost never is possible, especially when you have 3v3 games going.

As if the networking weren't bad enough, they force you to run the Steam Overlay and GFWL overlay at the same time. Yep, let me repeat that again: THEY FORCE YOU TO RUN TWO OVERLAYS AT THE SAME TIME. The game won't run with Steam Community deactivated, or without Games for Windows Live. Oh, and btw GFWL is still crap, it still lags, it still leads to random connection issues, it still lags the game, and it still randomly crashes. No only that, but it appears that it doesn't get along with routers well either, so in some cases you have to turn off your router firewall and do god knows what with the NAT to get the beta running, because otherwise you won't be able to log in to Windows Live, even if you are already logged into Steam.

In conclusion:
-Game is shallow, wears out quickly (World in Conflict style)
-Little potential for competitive play (fucked balance, +Relic has never released a well balanced game (just look at how fucked CoH and DoW are). Furthermore, Relic patches tend to cause more problems than they fix.)

The only plus side really is the awesome engine and the melee combat, which will probably allow for some LAN fun. Definitely a game that's good for some fun, but after 3 weeks we'll all just forget about it. Starcraft 2 is the true RTS for you to keep your eyes on, this is just a little toy to dabble with in the meantime.

-Naio Ssaion

I've already mentioned they've taken out the Mapmaker and mod support, only 7 maps... And the biggest disappointment is Microsoft Live. People were speculating in this thread that Microsoft had fixed it. Let me clarify: LIVE is as bad, if not worst, then it was before. It lags, the voice chat does not work at all, it causes crashes when working with other overlays/MP3 players (Xfire, winamp). In fact, it's an utter fucking disgrace.

I've played the beta and i understand why ppl are "sad" about it... but its Beta, and only a few maps. I expect better and more maps in the first patches and a bit more balanced gameplay, hopefully they'll add some kind of fortification and increase some units in numbers at the space marine side atleast.

big laugh about the game - thwy already manufactured the DVD's ( it takae abou one month to manufacture and distribute game) so no time for rewriting it.

7 maps on MP game ... great ;p this will surerly give many entertainmet ... more - yeah insert coin , they should also charge 1 cent per every MP ranked match ....

This game plays like the retarded cousin of the original, much like Empire Earth III compared to Empire Earth.
Atleast they can't take DoW away.
