Hm. I would suspect that it could be CPU related. I have Everest running on my G15 screen and the CPU is almost always 80-95% playing this game. I suspect as the "SWAT" enters, it requires more calculations etc.
But have you tried switching off Physics?

No, you don't need it - I never install their update system, just because it's more game-related bloatware (see also Punkbuster and GameSpy). Game works fine without it.

Had the same issue after the SWAT broke in, game got unplayable. Switched off PhysX, restarted the game, everything was smooth after that.

As mentioned the cloth and ragdoll effects aren't that stressful on the CPU but for some reason the particle effects from PhysX are very demanding and especially glass when it breaks into tiny particles, will often lower performance close to single digits on non CUDA capable systems (GF 7 and below and ATI cards.)

Probably what's causing the issue. Smile

Oh and from what I noticed most recent games (Sacred 2, Cryostasis and now Mirrors Edge) doesn't utilize the AGEIA PPU card either for PhysX, seems NVIDIA is slowly phasing them out and I doubt they'll be compatible with CUDA 3.0 when it launches later this year.
(Or rather PhysX once it's been updated to CUDA 3.0 standards which includes various improvements.)

Also from what I know PhysX isn't threaded (Kind of, hard to explain) as it's mainly meant to run on a single chip, first the AGEIA PPU (Physics Processing Unit) card and then the GeForce CUDA capable GPU's via the stream processors so when running on a CPU it'll use the primary core and that will impact performance instead of using or offloading to the other cores or even multiple cores.
(Like the latest versions of Havok do, main competitor to PhysX also from what I understand though there's not that many physics standards either as it's either Havok or PhysX that's being used and PhysX only became big once NVIDIA bought AGEIA.)

JBeckman -- you should start your own website/forum. You just make every forum you post 10x more knowledgeable.

Anyway, I nearly fainted after the ending cutscene where you hug your sister. It uses the 3d realistic rendering instead of the cell shaded one. You can see your hand pulling your sister in close to you in 1st person perspective. I thought for a moment Faith was going to lock lips with her sister. Wow, just wow. I didn't expect that at all. It was a nice surprise after playing non-stop for 6+ hours. That one scene made every minute worth it for me.

I need to get fraps going and save off that part. Awesome job, dice!

KeyserSoeze - Wouldn't work at first for me at all either in Vista with 4870 (8.12 hotfix). After splash screen, screen would loose sync but I could hear the game running (Game ver 1.01).

Editing ResX= and ResY= within TdEngine.ini in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config and forcing my LCD's native resolution did the trick.

Maxed out settings, PhysX on, using 1.01 update, and the latest nvidia beta drivers - Game runs smooth as glass on my GTX260. Way to short of a game. I really wish they would have made the game open ended so you could run around the city doing whatever.

i guess the fact, that the engine couldn't allow you to explore th whole city without loading screens is the reason of this not to have been done

Try tweaking the config files.

Should be located under these folders for Vista and then for XP.

C:\Users\UserNameHere\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config

C:\Documents and Settings\UserNameHere\My Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config

TdEngine.INI for engine related commands and TdInput.ini for control related settings.
(Don't alter the default INI files.)

Bloom=True
QualityBloom=True

Those two can be disabled for Bloom but I've no idea how the game will look without it, should be fine though.

It seems like - to me - that EA updated their official v1.01(?) patch file so that it doesn't work with the Reloaded no-cd. I couldn't boot the game until I got the original v1.01(?) that came with the Reloaded no-cd and it worked like a charm. So if you get that annoying .ini file error you should download the initial update and not the one currently on EA website.

Another question though: Anyone else get stuck if you grab onto a ledger that doesn't lead anywhere? I mean I can't jump anywhere and there's no way for me to let go of my grip?!?!. Do I really have to quit to main-menu and reload the game? Apart from that I'm really enjoying this game.

Just finished the game. I was kindly surprised cause I was expecting a worse game but I enjoyed most of it, even though I found it to be sometimes repetitive and annoying. The storyline is not top notch, but has it's twists and entertaining enough to motivate you on. Using guns is awkward like shit, and it doesn't feel natural at all.

8/10.

I hope the next installment would be better.

This game is not awesome, quite short but it's an amazing ride. Finished it twice, skipped the gun part altogether.

The moves you can pull in this game and the shortcuts you are able to take are impressive. I don't think this game can show it's true colors to a casual gamer because they'll just take the obvious route till the end and consider it; all what the game has to offer.

But once you start doing the Speed runs and the Time trials you'll find different ways to shave off a few seconds here and there and you realize the routes you could have taken while playing the story mode. And then it hit's you how much more fun it can be playing through the Story mode if you know wtf you're doing.

I hope DICE fixes the cheaters problem on the leaderboards soon, though.

Trying to beat 50 second on Playground one, so far got to 53.
