You get 850mbit down?

Who is your provider where you are?

Also, I just switched back to newshosting.com because of the retention change.

Exactly what I asked. I don't think even places in sweden offer that shit. That's faster than an OC12 line...

Maybe he's downloading at work on an OC48 line? IDK....

The amount of times he's bullshitted on here, I doubt he's telling the truth. And even if its some uber OC48 line at work, whats the point? I know plenty of ppl who work in offices and they dont have a) blue ray drives/burners (for games that are like 11gb b) dual layer burners/drives c) even straight dvd burners. No company wants their employee's to be able to burn company information ya know?

And I know cuz my aunt works at Canon and I have cousins in the US who work at major corporations.

He's full of it. I'd bet my house on it.

I was hoping for a thread like this, where i could make a decision about getting a newsgroup deal based on some very good comparison's, i like this newhosting.com, but with the lack of ssl in the 14.95 package(unless it's not that big of a deal?), i might try their $10 package.

I can't actually recommend UsenetServer anymore than I already do.

14.95 a month, SSL included and 125 days retention (currently being increased to 250).
Significantly cheaper than Giganews but currently has a lower retention.

And yeah, that bloke is talking shit about the 850Mbit/s if you ask me. That or he's paying for it out his arse as it would require some decent connections, a decent gigabit network. Better to save the money and just buy the software instead. Would work out cheaper.

Their customer service is horrid, I used them for about a year a year ago, their completion rate started going to crap, then they had a server issue where ALL the groups but like 2 got corrupted so I couldn't download anything that month, and their only response is "you'll just have to wait for everything to get uploaded by someone again." No refund, no extension, nothing, if they don't like the negative vibe when your talking to them on customer support, they'll close the chat. Their worthless.

Astraweb = awesome. SSL, unlimited 15 bucks a month, completion rate rocks, and their retention is going to 270 days.

Using NewsHosting now because dumb GigaNews fucked up somehow with the credit card I gave them and wouldn't accept it anymore (I use web cards for usenet payment).

Will check AstraWeb if they go 270 days retention. That's even more than GigaNews, right?

giga has 240 days. I also believe astra's servers are with giganews or something. I forget exactly what it was that it had in relation with giganews.

I've never had a problem with them and been with them for about 3 -4 years.
Customer service was why I left Giganews before that. They were rubbish. Clara-news before them for the same reason.

Because its de-centralized, repopulating the system shouldn't take long.

Astraweb seems like a very good option, I'm definitively considering changing from the overpriced Giganews.

What is the connection speed like to their EU server? Maxed out?

Yes it's very easy. Just a few mouseclicks. They ask you to choose between a reason and that's it.

I think newshosting was at ~110 days at the beginning of the year for unlimited, so it won't be up to 250 for a few months.

Ok I'm new to this usenet stuff. What do I need?

Is hitnews.eu any good? Seems to be a nederlands usenetprovider.
Can I start immediatly when I pay via paypal?
What do I have to look for. How do I find what I need (movies and stuff)...

Any help would be appreciated as I trust you more than the internetz :]

What does this mean?
"No obligations
To use the Hitnews newsservers you need to activate your account. For only EUR 1,50 you get 48 hours access without any obligations.

If your account is about to expire you will receive an email from us as a reminder. You can extend your account by loggin into our website.
A new payment will be added to your account so you can extend whenever you like. If you don’t want to extend you don’t have to do anything. Your account will always be available. Just log into our website and extend again whenever you like."

Do I have to pay every 2 days 1,50 just to be able to search for files?
