You sir are a fool. Its not the 4870 X2's fault the game runs like shit. All you need is a diver update or crossfire profile. Even then its really not AMD/ATI's fault and I find it hilarious that you would get rid of such a good card because your mad at the performance of a mediocre game. I doubt you even have the 4870 X2 and are just a Nivdia fanboy.

yeah a cracked patch would be of use
but so far this is pretty much the best port that has ever been made in the last few years
runs great and looks great , I'm amazed at the amount of details in this game

Right.

I complain because the card doesn't work well with MANY games so I intend to do something about it. You complain because I complain about the card, I'd say that makes you the fan boy doesn't it?
Now for the normal people, if you put it to 2X AA it's pretty playable on an X2. It hangs at around 25 - 30FPS which has been pretty playable so far. No crashes yet.

No crash for me, yet. Running max at 8xaa, 1650x1080. Running the latest PhysX 9.09.0010, with driver version 185.20. I have Physics ON in the control panel and ingame. Just finished the little tutorial, to get a feel for the game. Kinda makes me feel sick....

185.20 is a beta driver, posted some info about it in the hardware section but it's basically a leaked Quadro driver with some new options, unsure if it's more recent than the standard driver 181.20 but some people have had problems with the current 181 drivers (181.00 OpenGL 3 beta and 181.20 WHQL).

Depends on the games you play, and your hardware. Test and come to your own conclusion. Most peeps don't like 181.20, as it freezes with Fallout 3, when doing outdoor VATS. (yes there is a workaround, but meh)

Game runs at ~30-62fps(highest I've seen while looking up there, probably a cut scene), medium (auto set) at 1920x1080, i hit the 30s when riding in the elevator, im sure that isn't the only time i hit the 30s but all around it is smooth and pretty dam fun IMO

So the freeze is just random when you have PhysX on? I played the whole tutorial, with no freeze. How long were you guys playing, before it froze?

tiede, did you share your specs, someone in this thread? I guess that is good news, as I bet we don't see a new crack, for awhile. Would hate to play with PhysX off.

How come? I've been through a few levels now (at the end of the sewers) and I can't imagine what I would have needed PhysX for. Is there something I'm missing?

Installed the game and applied the patch, it only modified the EXE so using a crack totally negates it.
It's also UE3 and fully tweakable via INI editing but I haven't done much with it yet.

Most people report no problems with the card so I don't know where your getting the "many" from. Granted last months drivers had some issues with the X2's but I believe that has been fixed now. I'm no fanboy I go with whatever gives the best performance within my price range I have owned many Nividia and ATI cards over the years.
Anyways I guess I was wrong about you not owning the card and trying to slander it out of being a fanboy. Also way off topic but your a great flash artist and I watched your flash's on Newgrounds years ago.

Thanks JBeckman. Is physx in any way controlled via ini file with specific parametres? It seems somewhat strange to me that the patch only modified executable for a phsyx ingame driver problem.

What the hell?
I didn't ask why you wanted it on, I asked what they are needed for. Objects? Flags? I haven't seen anything that would require it, as in I have an ATI card so perhaps it completely gets rid of everything that uses it.

There's a ton of stuff in those INI files like debug menus and similar (You can alter pretty much anything if you edit the proper file.)
As for PhysX it's probably best edited in the user created files and not within the game files.
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdEngine.ini
Don't touch the hardware physX line as that usually causes crashes instead check the "PhysXEnhanced=True" or just untick the option in the main menu.
Works fine here with a AGEIA card but it's not problem free as I had one of those freezes shortly into the first map. (Just after finding the second bag.) CTRL-ALT-DEL and shutting the game down worked just fine, will wait until the game unlocks tomorrow and use my serial key with the download exe (pre-order via EA store.) together with the patch to solve that unless a updated crack is released.
(Doesn't seem like you can get that far either due to SecuROM checks and triggers like the slowdown mentioned previously.)
EDIT: PhysX adds cloth objects like flags, covers and similar, also enhanced particles and adds debri, check the trailer released previously to see a comparison with it enabled and disabled.
(Visuals only, doesn't alter gameplay or something so not required or needed but a nice extra if you have a CUDA capable GPU such as the GF 8 serie and above or a AGEIA card.)
