I haven't played any video games at all since.... Halflife 2 came out.... since then I think the only game I've played was Oblivion.

Now, I've got a laptop during the first week of February that I paid $300 for thanks to some subsidization. It's got a 9600m GT ddr 2, a t5800 (2ghz) core 2 duo, and 4 gigs of ram. After looking around the only current PC game that's absolutley unplayable is GTA4, everything else works at mediumish settings. It's not as good as a desktop would be, but I need portability and I'm paying next to nothing for it. Now, what I'm asking you for, are the super awsome absolutely must play games from the past couple of years. Right now on my list I have:

Fallout 3
Bioshock
Mass Effect

What are the absolute best games of the past couple years?

Space Rangers 2 (one of my favorite games of all time actually)
Mount and Blade
Sins Of a Solar Empire
Escalon Book I
King's Bounty The Legend
Galactic Civilizations II plus Expansions
World Of Goo
Puzzle Quest (spent more time with this game than the AAA titles that have come out)
Sunage
Evochron Renegades

All those should play nicely on your laptop and are great games.

Then on the higher end:
The Witcher Enhanced Edition
Dawn Of War
Company of Heroes
Crysis
Dead Space

1 stripe purple belt in JiuJitsu (good grief this takes FOREVER hahah)

those are good but the best u should play on that rig are cod modern warfare, cod world at war, bia hells highway. fps. for role try the witcher this one is like mass effect but in middle age era. and for strategy there are three gems u cant miss, company of heroes, world at war and supreme commander. these games i just told u are very good and for ur rig they should run fine, the ones that might hang up a little are perhaps world at war and company of heroes but still good frames on medium.
dont worry about gta 4 that was a lousy port and bad optimized, if u have 360 play it there is better than pc.The only game that u cant play on that rig after gta 4 is crysis itll give u low frames.

World in Conflict was one of the finest strategies in years, so try that as well. Smile

Also Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 were great.

I have a friend with the same rig and Crysis runs fine at low/medium dx9. GTA4 however only gets about 20fps avg with all low settings.... although strangely it doesn't change the framerate whatsoever if the settings are ramped up a bit.

I forgot to mention, I played most "casual" and indie games on my old PC, so Puzzle Quest, Peggle, World of Goo, Aquaria, Space Rangers, etc are already done

I'm also not really into RTS, although I think I'm going to try Company of Heroes.

Panzieman, if you have time you should really try World in Conflict. It's very far from most people refer to as RTS. In fact I think it's called Real Time Tactics(?). It has no base building, very little resource management and is all about tactics and attacks.

Half Life 2 came out in 2004 right?

How about F.E.A.R., should run great completely maxed on on your computer. It's from 2005 but still lots of fun, probably my favourite FPS from the past few years. Expansion packs are shit though, stay away from those.

KOTOR (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) comes to mind, one of the better RPGs i've played.

+999999
WIC kicks ass and that come's from someone who loves base-building-and-grinding RTS games. Already finished it 2 times, maybe it's high time for the third time :>

You are the second person i've ever hear who doesn't like this game. And i think you are seriously wrong. I've been playing RTS since Warcraft and i must say COH is one of the best RTS ever. EVER.

I cannot think of another game where the sides are so differnet in their playstyles as in COH (except maybe DOW, but it's by the same company).
