Mirror's Edge PC Review @ eurogamer

The chaps at Eurogamer slapped up a review of Mirror's Edge on the PC: Overall score was an 8/10:

For all its flaws, though, we're still in love. Mastering the game's in-body platforming is an urgent thrill, beaten down less violently here under the auspices of our old friends keyboard and mouse, and stands out from the homogenised interfaces of modern first-person and platform games. The quality of EA's 2008 output was a pleasant surprise almost throughout, but even among its several triumphs this is the only game confident enough to merely reward you with a heightened command of what you were already doing - and the only one where that more than sufficed.

Lol... Eat that nvidia-fanbois that used Mirror's Edge as a perfect example of why nVidia rules the world and why PhysX will "win" and ATI lose.

yeah, performance is about the same, with calculations made by cpu or by the gfx card.

Good news for ATI owners like me. Smile

It says on the official Mirror's Edge forum that the releasedate will be the 16 january. It's a message from yesterday...

Mirror's Edge coming to PC this Friday! (16th Jan)
On Friday Mirror's Edge will be released on the PC!

What the FUCK is with the 4870X2?

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,672734/Reviews/Mirrors_Edge-_Graphics_cards_benchmarks_plus_comparative_screenshots/?page=3

How does a single 4870 double its FPS? What a load of shit. I thought they didn't review the X2 at a glance, then its at the frigging bottom on each one!

My old 8800GTX would have played this better.

theres no crossfire profile, so the game only uses one gpu.

Obviously not the case, as one 4870 has a much higher framerate count.

Im sure the 4870x2 will preform fine with this game

EDIT

I dont trust charts. Ive seen charts for other games and they were completely wrong.
I know someone is bound to argue with me and Im not looking to argue. Im just talking from experience.

Crossfire can scale both ways, same with SLI, badly done or missing profiles or whatever the driver does to make the game scale can also have the opposite effect and cause worse performance than single GPU solutions, wait for Catalyst 9.1 and see if that fixes it (Unless the 8.12 hotfix from Friday already fixed it.) or hope for a hotfix or in the worst case the 9.2 drivers.

Still 30 FPS is playable altough not that good for a card like the X2.

A viable solution for now is to just disable Catalys AI and use only one core (and disable Crossfire), which would be more than enough for this game anyway, even on 1920x1200.

change the exe name to AFR-Friendly.exe, can dramastically improve the crossfire performance in some cases, such as Alone In the Dark and Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason which don't have crossfire profiles.

I think it would be more appropriate to change the EXE name to another UE3 game, as this is UE3 as well. Not sure if EA has modified the rendering process, but from screenshots/videos it looks pretty standard UE3.

2 cards bolted on to one PCB and SLI in general are always problematic and usually require at least one driver revision before they work properly.

After constantly having to wait for fixes when I had my 9800GX2s, I will never go down that road again.

Protection details plus the final system requirements. Smile

"Our review code additionally required the DVD to be in the optical drive and this is unlikely to change in the final version. "

Thus ensuring everyone who buys the game is going to get a a NoDVD crack as soon as one is out to save with the hassle of putting a disc in the drive. Very Happy

Game was average on the PS3. It was an interesting attempt at a twist to the genre but overall failed. It was boring and despite an interesting art direction, dull to look at.
