ok I changed my cpu-s thermal compound. but the temps didnt change :/. I used arctic cooling mx-2 which should be one of the best compounds. It idled at 50C with the old compound and now its still the same. I know i have stock cooling but seriously 50C is too much. My friend has practically the same computer and he's oc-d too but only idles at 29C.
Wtf am i doing wrong :S. I even useda guide to install thermal compound correctly.

If you don't have good airflow in your case (or the room is hot) it doesn't really matter how good your CPU cooler is (unless it's watercooling), it will just whisk around the same hot air. You need intake fans and exhaust fans to get a good airflow.

You probably read some review of this 'new and super' compound where the testers got a 3-4 degree drop in temps by using it. Well the systems they use are probably open and thus have ideal airflow, i.e. no case. If you're seeing idle temps of 50C then just using a different compound won't help that much. Possible causes could be not sufficient airflow in the case or the heatsink not being properly seated. Anyway to check your case temps?

i use realtemps to check the temps and rivatuner shows some temps too.
The ambient temp should be the air in the whole case i think and its 57 right now but im playing wow

Not necessarily. The air in the case (especially around the cpu) heats up slowly if there isn't sufficient air-flow. And if the case temp is high then no thermal compound can help bring down the temps.

Replacing thermal compound to reduce temps is one of those internet fads IMO. Sure if the original compound was slopped on there like mud, replacing it might make a difference. But overall, shouldn't expect too big a change. More can be attributed to the efficiency of your heat sink and case airflow.

you could try the Tuniq Tower 120, but make sure it fits in your case first ~_~

ok i bought a cheap arctic cooling freezer pro 7. It brought my 50-54 idle temps to about 30C which is amazing for that price. It has pwm, but I dont know how to use it. I could set it on pwm on bios but how can i change rpm of the fan or it doesnt work that way?
