When I installed Windows 7 it asked me if I wanted to upgrade the windows I already have but I didnt click on from there I just did a fresh install. Also I didnt need to install ANY drivers at all, Windows 7 seemed to have installed all my drivers.

Is the public beta release exactly the same build as this one.

I just didn't want to download again if they are the same?

Apparently they kept this thing with drivers from Vista, because most of my drivers were found and installed (there were some I had to install tho).

716 MB usage at start up? and thats why you go back?
Just so you know, if there's a game for example that actually needs ram, vista starts using only ~200MB, so i have ~1800 for the game, which is plenty.
I assume Windows 7 would do the same.

Thanks for the links for the keys. Got one, yay Very Happy

Anyone here had trouble getting a second screen to work? I had to press "Win + P" for Windows to actually use my old CRT TV Razz

It's the way Vista/Windows 7 uses Ram. You should really try and give this version a proper go. It utilizes the ram you have which is good but frees it up when you need it.

Don't be misguided by this. I have been using Windows 7 beta 1 for several days now and apart from a few lockups during file transfers it has been performing very stable and fast. My Adobe programs run much faster than any XP i have used, even the tinyxp versions load it slower than Windows 7.

I tried out the first Beta1 32bit leak the day it surfaced and I like win7 alot, it's just way too early to start it using as a primary OS. Maybe with Beta2, or RC1 I'll start using win7 normally.

Which showstopping bugs are you getting? I'm running Win7 24/7 here and have found no major issues. It's probably the most stable and snappy Windows beta1 I've ever used.

The only issue i had was a slight pause of the explorer, i encountered 2 times in 3 days now. Dont care about that...
And my explorer does not really care about my Partiitionnames and just calls them C:\ (CSmile, D:\ (DSmile which is weird but not really anything to mourn about Wink

W7 just messed up one of my harddrives Smile
It created a ton of references to nonexistent files, in the USN table, while deleting references to other files making them inaccessible.
Took me 9 hours to get it all working again and W7 removed.

That's why I'll wait until it gets out properly. And then probably it would be available on MSDN-AA license so I'll get it for free as Vista Very Happy

There is not going to be Beta 2. After this Beta it's RC and RTM we go.

I'm not gonna argue semantics here, what I wanted to say is Win7 isn't ready to be used as primary OS, that's all.

I disagree. I've used Win7 since late summer, and Beta 1 is as stable as any beta I've used. I haven't seen a BSOD in months or booted into Vista since November. I suppose technically Win7 beta 1 is just that, a beta, and it's expected to have some bugs, but I'm yet to find any showstoppers.

one of my main annoyances from vista is still there

what the fuck was wrong with everything being logical and where you would expect them?
why do i need a goddamn tracking dog to find the simplest of switches?
it was hard enough with xp, having to google for some stuff but now i have to google everything!?
it's almost like using linux
i know i don't have to configure stuff daily, but it's still a completely ridiculous complication to a problem that was already halfway solved

other than that, it actually does not seem all that hitleriy
maybe it'll turn out usable in the end.. who knows
