It also helps mold you into an upstanding student.
Quote: | WICOMICO CHURCH, Va. — A 6-year-old Virginia boy who missed his bus tried to drive to school in his family's sedan — and crashed. His parents were charged with child endangerment. State police said the boy suffered only minor injuries and authorities drove him to school after he was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head. He arrived shortly after lunch, Sgt. Tom Cunningham said.
It happened around 7:40 a.m. Monday on Route 360, about 61 miles east of Richmond.
The boy, whose name wasn't released, missed the bus, took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and drove nearly six miles toward school while his mother was asleep, police said.
He made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.
The boy told police he learned to drive playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam video games.
"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins. "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."
His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, and David Eugene Dodson, 40, are each charged with child endangerment, Wilkins said. Waltman is being held without bond. Dodson was released on a $5,000 bond.
It was not clear if they had attorneys.
The boy and his 4-year-old brother were placed in protective custody.
"This really is a story of miracles," Wilkins said. "The Lord was with him, along with everybody else on the highway." |

This is somewhat hilarious. How the hell do you learn to drive a car from GTA?

FOR WHAT!?
there's nothing a sleeping parent can do when a kid gets a dumb idea
they're kids, that's what they do!
there has got to be more to it than that
if not.. well, this is why the rest of the world laughs when we see the ridiculous warning labels on everything listing every single possible variation and possible outcome, meant for the american consumer

It's their fault for unshackling the kid. Any responsible parent knows to have your kid chained to his bed when not under supervision.

While it is partly the parents fault for not watching the child properly you have to admit they did something right to make the child have those much determination even more so to go to school.
"This really is a story of miracles," Wilkins said. "The Lord was with him, along with everybody else on the highway."
I hate these retarded religious comments.

Must be a midget car, or the kid had abnormal growth for him to reach the pedal and look above the wheel.

First - You dont learn to drive by playing gta
Second- The fathers are morons because they should not allow the kid to play GTA
Thrid - "the lord was with him", yeah yeah, the kid gave him a ride...

+1
I'm not even going to get into my REAL thoughts on the article .. because I'd end up being perma-banned >_> Needless to say, I fucking hate America and it's "arrest everyone" policy.
Yes, the parents should have been awake to drive the kid to school.
NO!, it wasn't the parents' fault that their 6yr old took onto himself to steal their keys and drive himself.
Parents were arrested for "endangering their children" Protective custody? They put their kids into care because of it? I've never heard of a more bullshit abuse of power in all my life.

Lol
I see Hollywood material in it:
A 34 year hold guy knocks a 18 hold girl. 6 years later there breakfestless kid rammes the family car while trying to get some food - incidentally that's the school to - he will claim to have learned to drive on western videogames pirate downloads
The religious police gets the sleeping mother from her bed taking her to prison here she will get some 50 laches
Only exception is they will place the action on Afghanistan or some other similar place where the story might be believable

Well, there might be more to it than what was reported. If the parents weren't awake to even see him up, then something is seriously wrong in that house. Also, the age discrepancy between the parents (26 and 40?) is a bit odd. But yeah, that is stupid that they were both arrested. The kid should have just been taken away. But remember, they haven't been convicted yet.

well, it's a bit silly to say you hate an entire country and then what you generalised to say that
"I fucking hate the American "arrest everyone" policy" would be more accurate, no?

while i think it is overly "stupid" to hate a country - as much as being proud of ones country for that matter - he has got a point there behind the brutal over-generalization. The u.s. has more people in prison than any other of the big industrial countries, partly because of the failure that is the war on drugs.
that being said:
@sabin: tone down the overgeneralizations, please. As a member who has been here for more than 10 posts, you should know that it only makes discussions lead nowhere.

The arresting of the parents could have happened in most other countries,so it's not fair to blame America for this.
Like EwarWoo1, the parents should have made sure he got on the bus.
Secondly a six years shouldn't have access to car keys.
But everybody should get attorneys by the State.

I think if you buy the alcohol for minor, then I guess I could see you would get charge with child endangerment...but what parents buy alcohol for their kids?
better to get some bum to buy it for you, if police catches you drinking, they only give you ticket,no matter how old are you >
