This occurs both in main menu & in-game, obviously making the game completely unplayable. I googled a bit and a lot of people seem to have issue with very slight horizontal lines, but these are anything but, so not sure if it's the same problem. Got a 4870x2 (8.12 catalyst) on Vista 64, anyone have a hunch what might be the cause?

No biggie since I have a huge backlog of other games to play, but I wouldn't mind solving this now.

Its your videocard and drivers. The X2 series seem to be having problems with the 8.12 cat drivers you could go back one but that had issues as well. As far as I know there is no solution at this time.

No such problems here with a 4870X2 and the 8.12 drivers, just tried the game a bit after reading your post as it's been a while since I've played it but both the main menu and actual game looks fine.
(Enhanced edition with the latest hotfix patch.)

Graphics options is set to the highest possible in case that has anything to do with it, ATI CCC options are also set for visual quality and not performance.
(Catalyst AI set to standard, AA set to edge detect but still application controlled, VSync disabled, AF set to 16x, mip-map detail set to high quality and adaptive AA set to enabled and quality.)

My settings are pretty much identical to yours, so no idea what's the deal with this.

Oddly enough the flickering disappears when I choose windowed instead of fullscreen... Guess that'll do. Smile

Also interesting how the amount of flickering (ie. how rapidly the black parts move) changes when I f. ex. go to options from main menu or change the camera angle in-game.

Well the game has had issues with more recent ATI hardware and it might be driver related but not triggered unless some specific conditions are met.

I just checked the fortress of Kaer Morhen in the prologue of the game (Tested a custom module previously.) and some parts of the floor panels are still a bit too reflective and nearly see-trough, known issue from what I've read but improved a bit with newer Catalyst drivers so it's possible that other issues still remain but only noticeable during specific parts of the game or above certain resolutions, like for example above 1600x1200.

Weird man, Ive got basically the same setup but instead of Vista 64 i got 32 i think.
Same vid card tho with 8.12 as well. Game runs smooth as butter for me with all settings maxed.

EDIT

Maybe its a 64 issue? Try looking for a patch for V64 or something...some games have that. Doesnt change the file version of the executable, just makes it compatible. Or try playing it in compatible mode (xp or something).

What the hell, I just tried it again for kicks and it works ok now... Haven't changed a thing since I last tried (and yeah I rebooted etc. when I first had this problem). Very Happy

Edit: fuck this game owns, just the game for me... Everything from music to graphics to game world, can see it was a labour of love.

Well happened again, but this time I found this thread on AMD forums:

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=262&threadid=98211

And true enough rebooting and starting the Witcher before anything else worked... Strange tho that they still haven't fixed the issue, it was already happening with cat 8.8 according to that thread.
