I know it's a Russian movie and the trailer is in Russian too, but jesus fucking christ it's an amazing flick! Visually it's Equilibrium meets Mad Max, Starship Troopers and Blade Runner.
I just got back from the theatre and can't really express how much I'm shocked, because it's the first Russian sci-fi movie that looks like Hollywood.
So keep an eye for a foreign release.

The CGI looks nice and so, but the overall look was too cheesy! Russian movies need to improve in this point.

The vampire series weren't bad.
Forgot the name. By the guy who did wanted.
They were done well and had amazing subtitle effects.
The whole package was brilliant.
But cheesy movies need to be done in a cheesy manner and cannot take themselves seriously.
'sides i hate everything Russian. 
Some movies are good and if the subtitles make it entertaining as well, then I'll watch.
But a typical russian movie, is just not for me. Especially if they're trying to be like the 80s cheesy trash movies.
North American movies like that have a lot of rip on the 80s/60s/70s. It's fun, funny and well one liners still stand the test of time. A russian movie like that, cheesy, going all 80s/60s/70s is grand if you're russian. If you're not, you're losing out on a lot mostly because you have to read what they're saying and have the time a brilliant line in Russian can be poorly translated into english and not be as epic. You dig?

It's not a trash movie, it's an epic production (most expensive movie in Russian cinema industry) that ain't based on CGI. It definitely has style, it has that anti-utopian atmosphere and the acting is top-notch.
Btw, part of the special fx was done by Quantum Creation FX who worked on I Legend, The Happening and The Watchmen.
p.s. a typical Russian movie? even I don't know what that is, so how can you possibly know. lol, srsly.

Each country has a typical movie. With russian type jokes with russian references etc etc etc... if you're not from there you don't get half the shit. Just like that warewofl/vampire trilogy. there were some russian references that i had no idea of.
I am being racist though. I hate foreign movies unless they separate themselves from the basic culture and do a movie that can be seen anywhere and everywhere without it being silly.
And they stand the test of time. Rather than being epic they're just good. 
I'll wait till they remake it in North America.

Well lucky you, this movie there's nothing russian in it - it's our society in general shown as a primitive planet with all the same problems we experience now while their Earth in 2157 is basically a heaven with no wars or anything.
The vampire movie was tightly connected to modern russian reality thus being hard to enjoy fully (and to translate correctly).

the vampire / wareworlf trilogy when it made its way to north America was made then times more epic by its clever use of subtitles. same with crank. the titles in crank were epic.

when the doc explained to statham about epinephrine
when they're shooting at the warehouse
even in the elevator with the Chinese guy.
the chinese guy said something in chinese and the subs for it were reversed so only statham could read them.
it was all lol.

No seriously, when a movie gets creative with subtitles, it's all the more entertaining and more epic.  Especially that vampire movie... FUCK I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME.
