I don't see how, damage is crap maybe it has some extra 'features', besides how will you get strength to 666.
Where do you get large weapons training by the way?

It's due to odd balancing.
Weapons are grouped according to their type, at the bottom you'll have "blunts" including everything from spears to halberds, above that is staffs and above that is crossbows and bows followed by 1H weapons and 2H swords.
By comparing the weapons you can see that the Demon Sword has the highest damage of all two-handed swords (Five more than the Wrath of Innos which was the most powerful weapon in G3.) plus it can be sharpened and blessed both which increase damage by ten.
Among the one handed weapons that "Skullfed" blade is the best (280 base damage, can be dual wielded and also sharpened and blessed totalling in at 300 damage per sword.) followed by the "Elder blade" and after that the "Rider sword" (MMORPG like names or what, looks like they're straight from Asian hack&slash MMO's as well.)
Among the "blunts" there still isn't anything beating the Orcish weapons though some of the new axes come pretty close whereas the spears and halberds are pretty bad.
(Best spear type weapon does 150 damage.)
Crossbows and bows see no additions or changes so the Demon Bone Bow (Or whatever it's name was) is still the best bow with the Krash Mora still being the best crossbow.
As such it's pretty easy to see that most of the new weapons are a bit overpowered but there isn't that much new content to be honest.
(Aside from the weapons there's three suits of armor and one new monster type - Troglodyte but it's only available in one cave from what I've found plus a few near the new endboss creature monster whatever it's supposed to be.)

Is this worth playing? I tried playing 3 long ago when it was broken and buggy and awful. Never went back to try it again.
Is this one better? Do I need to play 3 first? Or is this one worth playing for the first timer.

This one continues from the "neutral" (G3 had three endings, I categorized them as Good, Evil and Neutral mainly to avoid spoilers but that doesn't fully fit as it's not that clear cut in the game.) ending of Gothic 3 so having played that game would help but you would also have seen most of the areas already but things have been changed around a bit in this addon.
There's also a few bugs and other problems like having new voice files mixed with the old ones and the game tries to be both very open ended and very linear so it's fully possible to break the quest chain completely in a few important missions and get stuck unable to complete the game, altough it's been improved with the latest patches.
Third patch should be out later this year from what I've read on the WorldOfGothic fansite but it's unknown what it will contain.

So basically it's the same story as the other one. Released like shit, patched quickly and waiting for more patches to make it playable?
Cancel that download then. Fuck, I need a good game to play!

You need to talk to a bunch of named NPC's in that city, some can be a bit hard to find but once you've talked to everyone (Three, four NPC's or so) you can go back to Inog and the scout you rescued previously.
You'll then get the quest to kill him but as the above poster said you can break the quest by killing him earlier than intended, but still be allowed to progress trough the main storyline.

Yeah, this game is awful.
I should have known better but against my good judgment I installed it anyway. Uninstalling it now. I don't see how these Gothic games get made, they are awful. The engine is terrible, the voice acting is worse and the 'hero' is freaking retarded. Do Europeans really go for this shit?
What a disgrace. No wonder cRPGs outside of Bioware/etc. are non-existent. This makes Bethesda look like fucking kings.

I never found a single one during my playtrough of the game but it's those smokes that NPC's use, traders have a chance to sell them but I'll doubt you'll find any that you can just pick up.
As for your previous question assuming you didn't kill the black mage by now some NPC's are hidden and can be very difficult to find, there should be four or so of them and most are positioned around the black mages study area.
(From what I remember, the orc outside that study area, one of the orcs in the "council" room, one of the orcs on the battlements/walls above the town and I think there was one more that I don't remember at the moment.)
EDIT: Those smokes might be random loot in certain chests as well but there's a ton of chests to search.

Heh, I don't know about starting my own site or so but I seem to have a talent for learning and understanding so figuring things out is relatively easy once I'm interested and motivated for something.
Being a PC "gamer" I've nearly been forced to learn all sorts of things, can't use a computer optimally if things aren't configured properly after all (Or as close as possible, hard to get everything correct as there's a ton of stuff to learn and try to understand, hardware components, cooling, overclocking, drivers, the OS itself, patches, system updates and a ton of things like that.) and also if things aren't set up right, also helps to understand the game engine and file structure in order to optimize visual quality / perfomance and when modding games.
That's pretty general though, I'm not all too great at explaining but if possible I try to help with common problems if I know a possible solution and I try to provide updates like new screens, videos and patches for released and upcoming titles plus driver information for major components like the GPU to name some things.
However while I consider myself to have a rather wide or broad knowledge about all sorts of things like that I do not really specialize further into anything (Not the best term to use though.) like coding or decoding or debugging so things are kept at a more "shallow" or basic knowledge level so to speak.
(Programming, "hacking" and such, understanding programs at a deeper level and more is kind of what I mean by specializing further.)

JBeckman -- you seem to shine in every forum i've seen you in. it would be cool if you started your own gaming/tech/modding forum/site. i'm sure it'll catch on real quick.
it's a real shame that Koroush gave up tweakguides site. i really enjoyed visiting that site.

This wasn't mentioned and is rather important, seems savegames aren't fully compatible with the 1.07 patch (It's due to the game engine and probably would be hard to change without a major revision of it.)
http://www.worldofgothic.com/
Quote: |
Today, JoWooD released the newest patch for the Gothic 3 add-on «Forsaken Gods». The news reads as follows:
Quote by JoWooD:
JoWooD Productions just released the latest update for Gothic 3 – Forsaken Gods. This patch fixes current problems, improves the overall stability of the game and heightens the gaming experience.
Before updating the game with the latest patch, a re-installation of the game is recommended. All existing savegames have to be deleted and can not be used with the updated version.
|
EDIT: And no you don't have to reinstall the game or anything like that, patch contains all previous ones and replaces files instead of patching them so it's not a requirement.
(Might be recommended by Jowood because it reverts settings back to the default and deletes saves thus giving you a new clean start.)

I can't get the game to run, after v1.07.
When i will run the game, i only got this new problem:
"This software must be activated prior to use. For activation, a valid SERIAL is essential."
Where to find a serial for the game. hehe...
Is there a crack out ?

The digital download version of this game uses activation so you probably applied a patch for that as the regular disk edition is unprotected.
(There's patches for both editions from what I know.)

Is this patch only for the expansion, or does it work with gothic 3?

This is only for Forsaken Gods, the expansion, using it with the original game would break it really badly.
(Wait for the proper community patch 1.70 which seems to be readying up for release soon, although no date has been set.)
EDIT: Compared files a bit after patching.
lightmaps.p00 has been integrated in lightmaps.pak (Updated in patch) and Speech_English.p01 has been intergrated in Speech_English.p00 (Also updated) so remove those if they exist.
(1.06 or previous patches, technically you're supposed to do a clean install before applying the 1.07 patch according to the patch notes but if you know what's updated you can get around that.)
Oh and due to the engine structure or perhaps just the save format a clean start is required yet again.
EDIT: ge3.INI file was also updated a bit but if you've previously tweaked it the changes won't be applied, nothing critical though as it's mostly smaller tweaks and changes.
EDIT: Give all console command executed, there's over ten new weapons and everything has been rebalanced, there seems to be about five or so new suits of armor.

I was really enjoying playing gothic 3, so i finally give a try to this expansion.
Is this latest 1.08 patch also contains previous patches or do i have to install all of them one by one ?
